Thanks dude! I'll pass the feedback on to the rest of the Archaeology team.
I'm glad you're enjoying it!

Could you look into changing the language in the skillguide to better illustrate this buff? It just says "the xp for screening soil is increased." This does not tell you in any way that you're ability to screen soil for materials is also increased.
Your ability to screen soil for materials naturally increases as you level e.g. at level 30, you have a better chance than at 29 (this example is minimal though of course).
A similar example in a different skill is how you become more proficient at cutting a willow tree as your woodcutting level increases.
Is it best to say that if you're going for xp you should drop it?
I don't think so. I personally store it all in the soil box (I have it upgraded to store 100 now), and then teleport back to the guild whenever I need to empty it into the bank.
So it was planned originally to be 25% but then got buffed later to 50%?
Indeed! A LOT of stuff changes in pre-release.
At the early levels the chance is indeed low, however the chance of receiving a material from soil increases as you level up. There are also various milestones (you can see them under 'Leveling benefits' in the skillguide) where the XP is also increased.
The concept of soil isn't for everyone which is by design. There are different player types that it appeals too, and there are others where it doesn't appeal at all (i.e. those that are happy to drop or sell it).
It provides a 50% increase.
I have fixed the information displaying as 25% this morning (hopefully live next week).
Currently the colour changes based on whether you've contributed this specific item to that collection.
I can look at adding something else as well that represents whether that collection has been completed before.
During the tutorial you are given a special bronze mattock (it's specifically for the tutorial) which doesn't have an equip option on it.
I'm guessing that you brought your own bronze mattock with you which isn't the tutorial one, as that does have an equip option on it.
Quote from another post:
After acquiring the Assistant qualification you should be directed towards the exam centre where you can interact with the research notes (the table) for the research tutorial.
I noticed that a few people are clicking out early after the qualification is awarded which is not causing the hint trail to appear that directs you to the exam centre. I'll be looking to fix this and also add the hint trailing when arriving at the guild campus should you be ready for the research tutorial.
Unfortunately this is a technical limitation with the amount of options we can have from the inventory which is why it's grouped into 'Information'.
However, if you were to equip the journal you'll be able to see both options separately from the worn view.
I'm glad you spotted that!
I had to revoke his max cape and his 'Jack of All Trades' title as he no longer meets the requirements.

I looked into this issue and I believe that the messaging was being displayed when you weren't actually being awarded the granite maul (which is also why it wasn't updating the log).
I've implemented a fix so that the messaging should only appear when you actually receive the job.
Yeah I'm still wondering about this as well (along with Ancient Herblore). Seems like a repeat of Invention initially teasing new weapons.
There is no ancient herblore in the release of Archaeology. At RuneFest it was mentioned as a potential reward from a future dig site called 'Orthen'.
Has the idea of restoring weapons for use in pvm been scrapped? I see that picture of a light crossbow, but is that only for handing in and stuff like the spear of annihilation that was mentioned in runescape been scrapped for more of ancient summoning and invention?
That light crossbow is an example of an artefact which sits inside of the core loop (excavate, discover, restore, repeat).
The spear of annihilation that was mentioned at RuneFest is still an artefact that you can obtain, however it is only similar in the sense that you have to restore it. It works differently and is not collected by collectors for example.
I have a feeling this is gonna end up like shifting tombs, hope I'm wrong
There are mysteries to solve, and the occasional puzzle to complete should you wish to gain access to more of a site (which you should want to, as there are excavation spots there), however these are not repeatable.
Say it with me folks
Panic Buy Chins
Past that I don't think they'll be that useful, success rate looks to be 100% and when the bar fills up you get a damaged artifact, and the bulk of XP comes from restoration, so you're really only getting 10% more XP from the gathering step which is already low XP, so it might not be worth the cost of 2.5k per chin
EDIT: As I know J-mods will probably read this post, could you confirm that if I add an elder rune mattock to my toolbelt, and I'm 31 Arch, would I have access to the Mithril Mattock or will I have to add each Mattock individually to the toolbelt?
You'll get XP each time you excavate, similar to Divination. However, you'll gain more XP for successful actions (when you obtain a material).
I'd personally love a quick chat for how many Mark's of war one has. I'm surprised this wasn't part of the update.
Ah yes, good idea! I'll add an option to quick chat for marks of war (similar to reaper points).
