Voting begins on 7/21/2019 5 PM PDT

Spotlight videos are being released starting tonight and going until Friday.
They didn't start last night because it was a blind vote. I didn't know who the finalists were going to be until the contest management system tallied the scores and made the finalists visible.

About:

Dusk Consortium came to be because I returned to the game after a long break to find that My friends were gone and I wasn't fitting in with other FCs because of my chaotic schedule. I needed an FC that didn't expect anything of the people in it except to be decent human beings and I wasn't finding it. So I decided to make it myself.

We have a small estate in the goblet that's fairly furnished, but not much else yet.

Who am I?

I am an ooooold player. I've been around since 1.0 launch. I've managed to forget more about the game than I probably learned to begin with. I use to play pretty hardcore, but it got exhausting and burned me out for stormblood. I've returned, but now that I work in the game industry myself... my schedule is far too chaotic for time commitments and statics anyways. I just want to make some friends to play the game with and relax. I also have a tendency to re-arrange the furniture when leas...

It should be noted that those of us trying to use clusters are also heavily modding our servers. We are inevitably going to get larger character profiles. Is there no way to simply make the game more configurable? I realize that WildCard has long preferred a Harrison Bergeron approach to determine how players will experience Ark, but it's never too late to change.

In the context of the moving between servers with different engram point rates? That is about as graceful as it can get, it's something that can be recovered from without admin intervention even. That whole situation is a result of the game being pretty configurable. We do occasionally add new server config options, but adding those is not usually trivial.

As for the buffer overflow error, I suspect that's more an operating system hard limit of too many things trying to be processed all at once, that can't just be fixed by increasing an integer variable.

I've raised the overflow buffer crash. As for the negative engram points, I would like to check for something first. When Server A has a higher engram points per level rate than Server B, and a player who has spent all those points transfers from A to B this can result in the negative engram point issue. Basically, you don't transfer the actual points and your allotment is recalculated for the new server making the user over budget for the new settings. In this scenario, if the player uses a mindwipe they should end up with the correct number of engram points for their level.

If this is not the scenario you are running into though, I would like to know.

You might try the "Rare Sightings" mod, or one of the overhaul mods like ARK Eternal or Primal Fear. The overhaul mods tend to rely heavily on color/texture modification to seperate different "tiers" of creatures.

The amount of work that goes into creating new creatures is insane. Seeing new, well polished, creatures like this is extremely rare and we're really happy to be sponsoring this mod so that we can witness moments like this!

Ever wanted to add a city management element to the ark? ARK Settlements has you covered. Build villages, gather resources and bring some extra life to the ARK.

Dino patrol adds a new way to manage your creatures, giving you the ability to set up patrol and harvest routes. Think your creatures are too cozy in their box? Give them a patrol route!

ARK Eternal is an overhaul mod that changes a lot of features from vanilla ARK. It adds 600+ new dinos at its current state, and vastly extends the progression life of the game.

I am glad to hear that the update was able to resolve the problem. As long as no major issues with the devkit appear, I'll be pushing that update out to other mod authors later today.

Thank you for the information. I'm currently looking into this issue, and I appreciate the effort that you put forth in trying to narrow down the problem.
Debugging issues with mods can be complicated since we don't have the actual mod source usually, so efforts like this can sometimes help us figure out what's happening a little easier.

The dossier gave me a good chuckle though :)

I understand your side better now, thanks. However, S+ adds a lot more than just alternative building structures. Some stuff like the Nanny or the pull system obviously won't be added to Homestead. More servers run S+ than any other mod, so this is going to be a bigger and bigger problem as things progress.

Thankfully, he made S+ open source so it's just a matter of finding the right person or group to work on a fork.

Well, we are discussing options from our side, so hopefully we'll have a fix... one that doesn't result in people losing anything and that at the very least prevents this overlap issue from blocking off standard functionality to a mod. A non-destructive solution is extremely important to us.

It's actually something that could affect other mods right now if they have any classes that share names between each other or with the base game, it just hasn't really been run into because the modding community adopted a naming habit early on, so it is something that I would like to see handled a bit more gracefully by the system.

/u/ZenRowe this should be an easy fix, though it could take a little time. These guys have already done the legwork for orionsun, can you help us make sure he gets the time to fix it please?

I have actually already raised the issue, and a discussion has begun on how best to handle it. There are a lot of potential fixes (some easy, some not), but many of them are high-impact and not likely to be implemented.

One thing that should be noted is that, while we want to prevent overlap conflicts like this: Homestead is not designed to work with S+ or be a mix & match system, it's one or the other. So any fix that may be implemented is likely going to continue following that stance.
