It is not possible to use the Steam install of the game with Epic. If you wish to play from both Steam and Epic, you'd need to have 2 installs of the game.

Hi CMDR,

Sorry to hear you are having issues with the game. If this is still occurring we have a few things you can try:

Initially, are you are using Xbox's Instant-On mode at all? If so, try closing down Elite Dangerous entirely then reloading the game. Suspending the game via Instant-On then resuming it can cause network problems as the game attempts to "catch up" with all the data transmitted during the suspended phase, which it can't do effectively. It's best to fully close down Elite Dangerous after each play session and then load it up fresh rather than resuming from suspension.
