Greetings Travellers,

Our largest update to Worlds Adrift will be going live after maintenance. Update 31: Legendary Warfare sets up the final chapter of adventures in Foundation with a host of new features including:

Brand New Map - Explore a new world created by 2 members of the CCC.
Territory Control - Lay claim to territory, fight to be the ultimate winner of Worlds Adrift.
Legendary Engines - These engines have amazing stats and abnormally low weight thanks to the special components they use.
Ship Blueprints - Save your ship designs and rebuild them later at the click of a button.
Ship Boosting - Feed your engines Moonshine to make them go faster.

There’s many more changes, tweaks and fixes in this update and you can see all the details in the patch notes. (https... Read more

Personally, I've always wanted EA games to be hidden by default. So many people buy them without knowing the risk involved and expecting a finished, drug-free game, which just leads to frustration for both them and the studio staff who have to deal with their bad reviews etc.

Players would then need to opt-in to see them in store. A direct link to the game would work as normal but if you're not opted in you get a full screen warning explaining EA before confirming your purchase.

But, I can see the issues with something like that too - especially if studios need the funding from sales to be able to keep the lights on etc

This Update will include a wipe of your characters. If you want to preserve memories of your current gear / ship, please make sure you do so over the weekend.

Players could pay a small monthly subscription to change status to 'premium' and only premium players have access to Hades on the map - if non-premium players spawn to a reviver in Hades or pass through a sand wall they immediately get hit with an atlas pulse.

(Later development could possibly introduce markets and currency where premium access could be an in game item to be traded (much like eve & PLEX). Players could buy premium access with their in-game effort instead of using RL cash and those with less game-time pay RL cash to buy quantities of premium and sell it in game to acquire resources / items).

Sadly an initial pass at F2P isn't possible, and a premium subscription is not possible. (Worlds Adrift struggled with sales on a pay-once, play forever basis. A subscription model will mean even smaller number of players, likely too little to keep a shard interesting to play in.)

Not confirmed. We're investigating what is possible and what is not.

Heya, With regards to models, we've been told some can be exported, although the ship builder cannot. We're going to see what can be ported and released and what is going to need total re-writing to release. I can't make any guarantees at the moment as we're still discussing what can be released and what can't.

Heya, if you drop our support a message they should be able to help. We will be ensuring that anyone who's bought it in between April 29th 2019 and May 29th 2019, but i'm sure you can appreciate that both our CS guys, and steam have a lot of tickets right now, so it might be a little longer than normal

Heya,

Trust us, we love this game too. If we could find a way to make it work, we would be doing that.

With regards to the free to play question, A game usually can't transition from Premium to F2P: In order for a free to play game to be viable, it needs to be designed that way. The game design from Premium and F2P are very different things and need to be thought out from the start or, failing that, incur in heavy rework to be able to transition. Neither are true for Worlds Adrift.

We're keeping the servers running for as long as possible, keeping them going and alive for as long as commercially possible.

Thank you very much for the response. Sorry for my ignorance, I would confirm myself if I wasn’t at work as I’ve never played the island creator, but from what I’ve read recently the island creator lacks the ship building element and other main game content (sorry if this is incorrect, I tried to google as much info as I could to sound less stupid but couldn’t find much info).

If this is the case, is Bossa Studios looking at transferring these elements into the island creator to create some semblance of the main game even in a restrictive state, or will the island creator simply remain an island creator?

We're trying to put as much as we can easily into the island creator. I've been told that the ship building is out of scope but that we might be able to get some of the smaller features ported over to start, and possibly more later on

Heya,

Unlike our other games, Worlds's network is built on top of SpatialOS, a proprietary tech. Worlds does not run without it, nor can it be hosted outside of SpatialOS's infrastructure. It stops us from both making it P2P or allow anyone to host their own servers, unfortunately.

As the multiplayer is built so integrally into the game, its not a simple task to remove it. If you're wanting to just see beautiful islands in single player, we're keeping the island creator online.

Heya,

We're looking into it internally, seeing whats possible to port and whats not. What can be copied and what will need entire rebuilding. If there's anything you really want to see in the game, let us know and we'll see what we can do.
