It's worth noting that the launch option is case sensitive and needs to be --noWorkshop to work. --noworkshop will not do anything I'm afraid.

To everyone here having this issue:

If you use mods please check your mods against the list of broken mods, both the first tab and especially the tab named Patch 1.17.0.
https://pdxint.at/BrokenModCS

If that doesn't help or you don't use mods, please make a thread on our support forum. We need to see your output_log.txt (called player.log on Mac and Linux) to be able to help, which cannot be attached here on Steam.
https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/forums/support-bug-reports.879/

Depending on your operating system the log can be found here:
Windows
\SteamApps\common\Cities_Skylines\Cities_Data\output_log.txt
\CitiesSkylines\C...

Your mod collection has two versions of Advanced Vehicle Options, which you're hopefully not subscribed to as that will break both of them. Always remove the old one when adding a new version of a mod.

Both Fine Road Anarchy and Fine Road Tool are broken and replaced by Network Anarchy.

Loading Order Mod is also broken and should not be used anymore, Skyve has replaced it.

And Extra Vehicle Effects is broken.

Please add the launch options -noWorkshop and -disableMods to Steam, and then try to start a new city again. This will tell us if mods are causing the issue or if it also happens without mods.

How To Set Launch Options
  • Right-click on the game title under the Library in Steam and select Properties.
  • Enter the launch options you wish to apply in the box (be sure to separate each code with a space). Should look like this:
    -noWorkshop -disableMods
  • Close the game's Properties window and launch the game.

You have a city with left-hand traffic, right? If so this is indeed a bug, which we are currently investigating.

HealkitMod
This is a really old mod, one of the first compatibility mods. It's long outdated and should be unsubscribed. Skyve is the up-to-date mod for compatibility checks.

I recommend you check all your mods against both the first tab and especially the tab named Patch 1.17.0 of this spreadsheet and unsubscribe the broken mods you may have:

So getting the Natural Disasters will fix the problem? LMFAO Talk about "Pay to Fix" ๐Ÿ˜‚
Technically yes, but I would not consider that an actual fix. ๐Ÿ˜… Green Cities needs to behave and let you select buses.

Are you able to start a new city fine or does that also result in a grey screen?

Your post did not state whether you were using mods or not, so I decided to provide information for how to proceed both with and without mods. Bug reports need to go on the support forum as Steam unfortunately does not provide all the options we need to investigate issues. And the output_log.txt is useful to us even when you do not see any errors. Some errors do not pop up in game, but even when there are no errors, the log contains a lot of information about wh... You're running out of memory. As you have around 100 GB filled you either have a LOT of workshop assets or you have a broken mod that's causing an endless error causing huge memory usage and the crash.

I recommend you check your mods against the list of broken mods, both the first tab and especially the tab named Patch 1.17.0.

Please try verifying game files through Steam:

If that doesn't help, then I'll need you to make a report on our support forum here:

Please make sure to report bugs on our support forum and include as much information as you can about what's happening, how to trigger it, and ideally also the output_log.txt (called player.log on Mac and Linux) and the save where this is happening. Thanks!

The vast majority of mods are updated within the first week of a new patch, most within 24 hours of the patch release. We work with modders providing early access to the update so they can prepare updates ahead of time, and they put in a tremendous amount of work to make each patch as smooth as they can for everyone who plays with mods.

When we update the game, whether we're adding new features or fixing bugs, the game's code changes. Mods that reference the code which has changed will need to be updated to account for those changes, and that means waiting for updates and occasionally switching to new versions of mods. While it may not be the fun part of modding, it is unfortunately a part of the deal. This is why you are warned that the game may not work as expected when you first enabled mods. We try to provide you with the information you need to make an informed decision about whether modding is for you or not.

I understand it's frustrating to have your game... Read more
