If it doesn't save with the launch options in place, definitely also make sure to whitelist cities.exe in your antivirus app. It may be blocking Cities from creating a savefile.

Let's start by seeing if it's mod related. Add the launch options -noWorkshop and -disableMods to Steam, then start the game and start a new map. Test to see if you can save it.

How To Set Launch Options
  • Right-click on the game title under the Library in Steam and select Properties.
  • Under the General tab click the Set launch options... button.
  • Enter the launch options you wish to apply (be sure to separate each code with a space) and click OK. Should look like this:
    -noWorkshop -disableMods
  • Close the game's Properties window and launch the game.

I highly recommend checking out this guide since you're new to modding. It covers all the basics that are really handy to know. :)

Yes. Custom assets including roads, train tracks, buildings, trees, rocks, props, etc. which are placed on the map would be needed. But if you didn't place any, it's fine.

Did anything happen before then? Like a game crash or the computer unexpectedly shutting down?

Those are both regular parks, so definitely a mod problem.

The easiest way for me to have a look through your mods would be for you to post your output_log.txt (called player.log on Mac and Linux).

Here's where to find the log depending on your operating system. To easily find the local files for the game, right click your game in the Steam library, select Properties, go to the Local Files tab and select Browse local files.

Windows
\SteamApps\common\Cities_Skylines\Cities_Data\output_log.txt

Mac OS X
Users//Library/Logs/Unity/Player.log

Linux
~/.config/unity3d/Colossal Order/Cities: Skylines/Player.log

As we can't attach files here on Steam, you will need to upload the file somewhere else. Here's a few sites you can upload it to, which do not require you to sign up first:

You're welcome! :)

You might have more luck making a post in the Workshop Discussions. Not sure many people who might have some ideas pop in this thread. :)

I recommend you post about this on the official support forums. A BSOD is very unusual and there's probably better help there than here.

Hey City Builders!

We're coming to you today with a brand new live stream series - Community Challenges.

In each episode LeaderOfTheMonkeys will attempt to build a specific location in only one hour. Hopefully, without going too crazy with the number of mods and assets ;)

Last week we tackled a Japanese Garden challenge and you can already watch it below.

Tomorrow we're going to witness a speed build of a race track! Make sure to tune in on September 29th at 3pm CEST / 9am EDT on Twitch and YouTube.

When the game doesn't see the save file despite it being in the folder, it usually means the file got corrupted. It's fairly rare but it can happen (and sucks!). Best thing is to do like snowflitzer describes and always save as a new file, so you have the older versions in case something goes wrong.

Do you perhaps have an autosave of the city that you could use instead? You might lose a bit of progress ofc, but that's better than losing the entire city.

We'll need to know a bit more, like if you use any mods related to public transport.

Depending on the size of your city and how much traffic you have, you might also have hit the vehicle limit, which would stop new metro trains from spawning.

If there aren't a style or a theme (when you use the Building Themes mod) assigned to a district, then the game will just pick buildings out of all possible growables. So if you don't want that, you will need to either use styles (which come with the game) or the mod Building Themes to restrict what can grow in a district.

Styles can only contain buildings from the workshop and are pretty flexible. If a type, size or level of building is missing, the game will just pick a random one to add. So things will always grow and work, but you have less control.

Building Themes let's you create themes on the fly in your city, and you can pick both workshop and default buildings for them. It's more restrictive though. Only things in a building theme can appear in a district - so if a theme has no office buildings, no office buildings will spawn. You can have multiple themes for a district though, so you could make a generic theme for stuff you want all over the city and m... Read more

Move It can delete full landfills if you don't want to wait for them to empty. If I remember right, so can the Better Bulldoze mod.

Make sure you have a nice big pagefile set up. I recommend a custom one at 32 GB. That should hopefully help with the crashing.

Keep an eye out for that error though as it could indicate problems with your RAM. Hopefully it's just running out of virtual memory though, so setting up your pagefile will do the trick.
