Under Windows, the Vulkan option is only there for diagnostic purposes, it is not intended to play the game like that.

Does it work okay with DX11?

As always, disable your mods before posting bug reports or tech support threads.

Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-CK3
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK3 AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3 folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.

In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam CK3 or Documents CK3 locations, before installing again.

**File Locations on Mac OS X**
The executable and DLC folder are in Users/USER/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/Crusader Kings III/
To see it go to the Finder, hit command-shift-G (ie Go To) and type in ~/Library/ .
The user files (settings.txt, error logs, saved games, gfx, mods) are in /Users/USER/Documents/Paradox Interactive/Crusader Kings III/ .

THEN test with a new unmodded campaign under the new patch. Is it any better?   ...

From what you say this is almost certainly a game bug. As such there's nothing you or I can do to fix it, it'll need a code patch.

Please attach that save to a new thread in Bug Reports, for QA and the developers to look into.

Then just put that save aside, and try it again as you see new patches come out.

Sorry for that problem!

Please try setting the cap to 60. And Right click on ck3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.

If those don't help:
DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log , exceptions.log ... Read more

Commander_A said: I'm attempting to get a full refund as this isn't mentioned in their store page's minimum requirements to run the game.

Lots of errors showing in the save game files in that log, AND mod errors too. This was definitely from a campaign that no mods have ever been used in?

If so, Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-CK3
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK3 AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3 folders - In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam CK3 or Documents CK3 locations, before installing again.
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add CK3.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test with another new, unmodded campaign please

I see, I'm really not sure what could cause that.

Right click on ck3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, cap refresh rate at 60.

When you say 'while playing", you mean within the game? If so, what if you exit to the main menu and only then load that save?

And, disabling mods does not remove effects they have already had on the save game file. So do all testing for this with a campaign that's never had any mods used in it, thanks.

Your CPU and GPU are over the minimum requirements but short of the recommended, so we can't expect great performance here!

As to memory, we need to make sure that's all available to the game as the campaign goes on.
Please:

- expand your Windows paging file maximum size to 32gb

Optional: Increasing the paging file size on Windows computers

Just in the last few days I've seen some other reports of this on Macs; BUT not at all restricted to Sonoma.

I think it's time to bring this over to the Bug Report forum! Please make a new thread there, and link this thread for QA to look into.

Sorry about that!

You could be running low on available memory. Did you expand the paging file as I suggested?

Also unload every other app you can before starting the game.

Most likely you are indeed running out of available memory. First expand your Windows paging file maximum size to 32gb

Optional: Increasing the paging file size on Windows computers

On computers that have 8 GB of RAM, the suggested paging file size is 16 GB. www.ibm.com ... Read more

Did you set the cap to 60, as I suggested? If not please try that.

Either way what fps do you see in the game now?

The other issue is you are critically short of free space on both your drives. In particular there is not enough space on C: for Windows to do any more swapping out. Windows' boot drive should have at least 10% free space. In your situation I'd see if you can get like 50gb free, then up your paging file max size to say 32gb

I've seen no other such reports.

Does this happen in a new save started under the current patch, or only an existing one from an older game version? Or both?
