Has the game ever worked on this machine? Or it has always been like this?

Right click on ck3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, cap refresh rate at 60.

If those don't help:
DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log , exceptions.log

This can happen when Steam wants to install an update. Have you tried restarting Steam and restarting your PC?

We have three possible workarounds that may solve it:

Disable IPv6
- Close CK3
- Go to Control Panel > View Network status and tasks > Change adapter settings (left side)
- Find your Hamachi Connection and Disable it
- Find your Internet connection adapter (for me, it was WiFi)
- Right click your internet adapter and select properties
- Scroll down to find "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) and uncheck the box
- Select Ok
- Start up CK3 and should work.

Disable all other network adapters
Go to Windows Control panel.
Click on Network & Internet.
Click on View Network Status.
Quick Tip: You can also quickly access these settings by right-clicking the network icon in the taskbar and selecting the Network & Internet settings option.
Click on Change adapter options.
Right-click all network adapters that are not connected to the internet and select the Disable o... Read more

If you have a crash dump it's probably time to make a new thread in Bug reports and attach them, and the files above, there.

Sorry!

If you are on any Windows version before 10, the new launcher doers not work in that environment any more I'm afraid!

If you are on 10 or 11 though, Please try this:

- uninstall Paradox Launcher v2 from the Windows "Apps and features" utility, if still present.

Delete the following folders if still present:

- C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Roaming/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
To see the AppData folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.

- exit the Steam app entirely
- run steam.exe as the Windows Admin user
- run the game from the PLAY button in Steam
OR
- exit the Epic app entirely
- run EpicGamesLauncher.exe as the Windows Admin user
- run the game from the Epic client

IF that doesn't help, in thi... Read more

So you can start ck3.exe but the launcher cannot. What antivirus app do you use? You need to make sure all these apps are in its exceptions lists:

ck3.exe (in the Steam CK3-binaries folder)
dowser.exe (in the Steam CK3-launcher folder)
C:/users/{UserName}/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2.2023..14/paradox launcher.exe
C:/users/{UserName}/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/bootstrapper-v2.exe

IF that doesn't help, also set each of those .exe files (EXCEPT ck3.exe !) to run as the Windows Admin user.

Then the game should run from Steam/our launcher, and enable all the DLCs.

MartyBeBe said: So before starting my CPU is 33C and GPU is 35C. After 10 minutes my temp was CPU 40C and GPU 38C. The game crashed 20 minutes into the session with around the same temps. At no point did any temps reach above 50C.
Then it is not that either, problems start up around 80c. I'm not seeing any clue as to what's wrong !

Make a new Windows user and log into it with that. Go into startup settings and disable everything and reboot. Then run ck3.exe directly from file explorer and start a new test campaign. Do you still get this problem?... Read more

When you run ck3.exe directly from File Explorer you should see no PLAY buttons, the game should start up directly (if it can). Please try that and let me know what happens.

Please report the temperatures of your CPU and video (GPU)
1/ before starting the game up and
2/ after say 10 minutes' play.
If your PC's vendor has given you no way of reading temperatures, install
SPEEDFAN http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php

"setting_framerate_cap"={
version=0
value="off"
}
Did you set the frame rate cap? If not please try that.

And, what fps are you seeing in the game? We are trying to restrict it to 60.

Updated video card driver first.

Windows 11, using CK3 Quill version. Deleted all mods, and uninstalled / reinstalled. Paradox crashes right after hitting play in Steam If I uninstall Paradox Launcher and then run it in Steam, the Paradox Launcher re-installs and the game works. Once I close the game I have the same issue.

Same as OP, in regards to not having an exceptions.log file. Also looked in Event Viewer and did not find any more information. I can run the ck3.exe file directly and with success, but not the parado...

Please find attached the files. There was no exceptions.log file unfortunately.

Best regards!
I see nothing about ck3.exe in that dxdiag, only the launcher. What happens if you run ck3.exe directly from file explorer?

We see some LiveKernelEvent entries in dxdiag there. They happen when Windows is forcibly downed; have you see those happen? Are they related to this game or something else?

Has this game ever worked on this machine? Or never yet?

I see you have the bare minimum of memory for this game, so please unload every other app you can before starting it.
