That's a shame, we are edging towards needing a Windows reinstall here!

But first please attach here new copies of all the text files: dxdiag.txt , error.log , system.log , pdx_settings.txt , debug.txt .

Ironside II said: Can you Explain a little bit more about how and where I should attach the file?
I have a problem figuring that out.
Sorry for my bad english.
Please start your own new thread , rather than re-opening this old one. Please give a full description and history of your problem there, thanks.

Below this text field is a button Attach Files, you use that to attach files.

Then you must have a different problem cause than the OP, as that fixed them up. In future please make your own new thread, thanks.

Yours looks like an nVidia problem, driver or card:

According to that error log you do have a save game locally:
[08:42:10][portraitcontext.cpp:149]: Unknown hairstyles gene accessory group sub_saharan_hairstyles at file: save games/africa.ck3 line: 1
BloodPhantom said: As a result, he says that there is not enough RAM,
Do you still get that after the clean reinstall?

Add CK3.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.

You should add steam.exe and C:/users//AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2.2021.2/paradox launcher.exe to that list.

I agree there are lots of worrying errors in that log file, but they seem to be in local saves not cloud ones. If you move all saves out of the /save games/ folder and delete that error.log, then run ck3.exe directly, what happens?

Did you try the clean nVidia reinstall I described? You don't mention it either way.

That's because you lodged it in Bug Reports, but that is not going to be a game bug.

When launching from the exe, I get the additional errors "The procedure entry point MiniDumpWriteDump could not be located in the dynamic link library C:\Windows\System32\dlumd11.dll" (and the same for dlumb10.dll and dlumd9.dll).
I've never seen those errors before but they seem like pretty serious Windows ones. Googling them shows quite a few hits with various apps and games, but I didn't see any particular known cause or fix.

What's the history of this problem, has this game ever worked on this machine?

Does CK2 run okay?

Given it seems to be video-related let's try a clean reinstall of the nVidi adriver:

- uninstall the existing nVidia driver and all other nVidia software

KaiserRobertIII said: I have the same problem. I downloaded and installed an nvidia driver from 2020, and everything else that all the forums say to try, no effect. It worked fine on CKIII 1.2.2 and earlier.

I found they released a driver on March 30, 2021 for windows 8.1 as well. I installed it, no effect.
Then you do not have the same problem as the OP. Please in future start your own fresh thread, thanks.

I'm not aware they can have effects when not enabled, but no harm in trying that. Were any of them updated coinciding with the onset of this problem?

There are some mods in use there - does this also happen in a new unmodded campaign?

I see you got the new nVidia driver already - did this only happen after that installed?

Did your clean reinstall include making sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam CK3 or Documents CK3 locations, before installing again?

In the game launcher please set Display mode to windowed.

IF that doesn't help, Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-CK3
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK3 AND Documents/Paradox/CK3 folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add CK3.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam CK3 or Documents CK3 locations, before installing again.

If those don't help:

That's the error you get when you run paradox launcher.exe directly by double clicking on it. It is designed to only be run from Steam.

Right click on paradox launcher.exe , properties, compatibility, and tick the Run as Admin box in there. May as well do the same with dowser.exe (in the Steam CK3 folder) and bootstrapper-v2.exe . Then start the game from Steam.

I have to say I'm pretty much out of ideas on this one. Basically it has to be hardware or Windows, AFAICS. Why just this game I cannot imagine, no matter what the cause.

How do you feel about a Windows Reset, or even a clean wipe and reinstall?

Gidders91 said: Hi Andrew, I'm having a very similar issue it seems.

The game was running great since I bought it at launch, however today the FPS has dropped to a consistent 3 FPS when not moving! I've tried windowed, full screen, uninstalling and reinstalling but nothing seems to work.

Every other game I play is fine, as I thought it could be to do with my GPU. But this is the only game where the FPS has just plummeted

Was the above fixed? Is there a solution?
If it only happened in the last few days, it is not the game causing this... Read more

Sounds lik ethat save file is bugged okay, sorry about that! Please make a new thread in Bug Reports and attach it there for QA to look into.

The user mods forum may be able to help with editing the save to fix it, not sure.

You can just delete that error log or the whole logs folder in fact. Then run ck3.exe , if a new error.log gets made please attach it here. And
DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Has the game ever run on this machine? Or never yet?

Do CK2 and EU4 work on this machine?

What AV app do you use?

No problems evident in any of those files - it installs, updates and runs without error apparently.

What if you set C:/users//AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2.2021.2/paradox launcher.exe to run as the Windows Admin user, does it launch CK3 then?
