It is working as designed that running eu4.exe doesn't run the launcher, since that is a separate application that can only be run from Steam.

What if you set it to run as Windows Admin all the time, then run the game from Steam?  

This has been reported here quite a few times, as you might imagine!

If you can find no thread on it in Bug Reports, please make one there and attach the relevant save game file there, thanks.

To get you the Steam version we'd have to buy a Steam key from them to send to you, which would cost us roughly what we received from your purchase on Epic. So you'd end up with 2 copies of the game, and we'd end up with $0 in the deal! So sorry, that is not possible either.  

Sorry then, I have no idea what is happening in this machine to cause this to you. I expect a Windows Reset or clean wipe and install would fix it, but that's a lot to contemplate to get a game going properly, I know!  

Since doing that have you re-applied the "disable fullScreen optimisation" setting to eu4.exe ?

Is this in a campaign started since 1.32.1 , or started before that patch?  

When you say randomly, after a crash you can load the same save and continue on past the point it crashed at before, is that right?

Any mods involved?  

While we have had issues with OneDrive in the past, as long as your launche ris up to date (2021.9) I would have thought it would work now.

What antivirus app do you use?  

It does not sound like a rendering issue. If the problem is reliably reproducible from that save game file, please make a new thread in Bug Reports and attach that save there, for QA to look into.

The performance issues in the 1.31 patches have been addressed in the 1.32 patches to some extent, but clearly there is more work needed!  

I don't know what to say really. Obviously 1.32.1 is identical now to what it was on Friday so it can't be the game itself. Maybe your security app had an update meantime?  

If this campaign is using Random New World, that setup is starting to look like it causes game bug, I'm afraid.

If you can run eu4.exe but the launcher can't, that is usually some file system permissions issue.


What antivirus app do you use? You need to make sure all these apps are in its exceptions lists:

eu4.exe and dowser.exe (in the Steam EU4 folder)
C:/users//AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2.2021.9/paradox launcher.exe
C:/users//AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/bootstrapper-v2.exe

IF that does not help, also set all those .exe files (EXCEPT eu4.exe!) to run as the Windows Admin user.

Probably, yes. Did you actively want your user documents stored on MS's servers rather than locally?

Is One Driver actually running and syncing successfully?

In the game launcher please set Display mode to Borderless. THEN go here:

Hmm, hard to tell then if this is a bug left over from 1.32 that 1.32.1 prevents in new games but does not fix in old games, or is a new or unfixed bug.

Any chance you can put that campaign aside, try a new one and see if you get this issue again?
