Those saves crash for me too. This does look like a bug now, I'm afraid. Most likely it only happens with a particular DLC involved that you did not have access to before.

Please make a new thread over in Bug Reports, and attach those save games from above for QA to look into.

This is certainly Avast getting in the way:
[virtualfilesystem_physfs.cpp:1253]: Could not open file: pdx_settings.txt, error: permission denied
You may need to contact their support to make sure eu4.exe and paradox launcher.exe are allowed to read and write to the Windows user Documents folders.

You may as well update that nVidia driver to November 2021:
Download Drivers | NVIDIA
And I see crashes in eu4.exe in that dxdiag. What antivirus app do you use? Add EU4.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.

What version and checksum show in the main game menu?


DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/EU4/settings.txt and pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/EU4/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log .

That is by design, yes. The intention is you run it from the Steam or Epic play button.

I see no reason in those files for this problem I am sorry. This is only happening to you, so far as we know!

Let's try a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-EU4
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/EU4 AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/EU4 folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- flag eu4.exe to Disable fullScreen Optimisations again
- add EU4.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam EU4 or Documents EU4 locations, before installing again.

And if you run in borderless or windowed it works fine, is that right? If so that is the exact opposite of the normal experience.

Yes, 1.32.1, but I didn't think that would affect save game compatibility over 1.32. However if the save is from the 1.31.x patches, that would explain it.

Those crash reports are aggregated and anonymised. They are so the devs will know of any general trends in crashes and widespread problems, they are not intended as a personalised support service - that's us here!

Try a new campaign started with the new 1.32.1 patch out yesterday. Do you still get this?

Please try the following:

- unsubscribe from all mods in BOTH the Steam Workshop and the Paradox mod site mods.paradoxplaza.com
- delete the folder Documents/Paradox Interactive/HOI4/mod/
- delete the file Documents/Paradox Interactive/HOI4/mods_registry.json (if present)
- delete the file Documents/Paradox Interactive/HOI4/launcher-v2.sqlite (if present)
- run the game up and check the launcher is okay with no mod or other errors
- subscribe to a few mods

- run the game up and see if those mods are now available to you.

I hope that does it for you! If so you can do the same for the other games.

Are you definitely on 1.32.1 , which is now publicly released? It really should fix this issue.
