It didn't feel like I died because I wasn't keeping watch of my surroundings, it felt like I died entirely because the game went 'haha f**k you'. I thought I might have time to craft some armour up before stuff despawned, but finally managed to get back to where I died (less than an hour later I'm pretty sure?) and my stuff was nowhere to be seen.

It's perhaps worth me noting that I had both a shovel and a rifle instantly clip into the snow as soon as I dropped them (luckily I alt+F4'd before anything saved and got the...

Agreed. There is a ticket in for BW4 to this effect. We will place a gravestone marker at your equipment, and for solo players, the equipment will only despawn when destroyed by weather or on reload. Subject to change, but that's the current plan. We'll test and adjust and see how that feels.\

Additionally we might give solo players a "death run" modifier, that allows them to run faster, and have less visibilty.

The refund policy we have is precisely for this situation.

The beta is going to be very frustrating for those looking for a polished experience, as it's purpose is for us to play with the concept while it is still maleable. For many, this will result in frustrations. These people can then refund the game, and might later reconsider a look with fresh eyes once the game has stabilized.

Thank you for checking the game out! I am glad you were able to get a refund, I much prefer an unsatisfied player to get their full money back if they play my games and don't like them.

We fixed some bugs with the animal spawning at the last minute, which resulted in us seeing the true operation - once our new "zoning" spawns came in.

Understand the frustration - but sadly this kind of lesson is what beta's like this is about. A key focus for BW4 is for us to take the new zone spawn mechanic, and add respawn exclusions on top of that, which will solve the issue of animals spawns.

gigantic waste of time and frustrating unenjoyable experience hope you have a lot of testing data from it...whatever bs you was testing by this.....

While I understand the frustration I would say the team is working very hard and I think the BW demonstrates huge progress from the previous one.

Do remember games are made by real people, try to direct the frustration at the experience - not the people developing it. We play the game and experience the frustrations as well. We take those, and commit to making the game feel better.

Thanks great repro. I've seen this myself, tasked up as critical priority fix for BW5.

These are called "unzipping" events internally, sudden strong winds that can "unzip" your roofs.

DLSS is currently causing a major memory leak. There might be others, but that's the main culprit. We have informed NVidia (as its in their DLL). It's in the public DLL, so it doesn't just affect Icarus. However because we extensively use it, the impact is severe.

For now either reload regularly, or turn DLSS off, are the only workarounds. We hope to have that fixed ASAP.

Likely a RAM issue, although 30-40 trees shouldn't really cause an issue by itself. You can use the provided buttons to eject your character from that prospect and land them on a new one.

The trees do decay, and I have been suggesting we look at not loading in cut down trees. We did the same with corpses.

The arctic is my favorite biome, but I can imagine it will not be everyones.

The primary function of the arctic is as a survival challenge. It's much harder to survive, and it bisects the map - becoming very important later when you land in one area but have to head to another. You might decide to cut across the arctic, or go around even though its longer. Or you might know about a secret cave that connects several biomes.

I believe a good survival game is about choice based on risk, and consequence of those choices. The arctic is risky, but this can prove fruitful.

I would say that the game is released in portions, with us trying to balance and adjust each portion as we go. This can mean that the current "portion" doesn't have as clearer "point" when considered as a whole.

In the same way that the "point" of a car chassis might not be apparent until the car is entirely assembled. Initially, it just looks like a weird hunk of metal.

We are trying to balance the game. Balance problems, issues, and bugs, have much greater consequence Solo than they do in Coop. Hence, why Solo players can feel "attacked" by that. But really solo play helps best highlight the problems with the game.

I myself play solo most often, and I experience the frustration. The beta is about figuring those things out, and fixing them, before the game is set in stone.

Overall though, I see the game will be "fun to play alone", but certainly won't be *easy* to play alone. Solo play is intended to be the ultimate challenge.

Hiya!

No dedicated servers on the horizon.

All prospectors can log-off during a prospect by pressing ESC and exiting to character select or quitting to desktop. The first person to re-join the empty prospect will become the host. Everyone can join back as they wish. Everything will remain as it was :D

The only way someone will not be able to join again, is if they "settle" their prospect by leaving in their dropship. This would mean they need to start their own new prospect or join another.

Hope this has helped!

Hi there!

Currently there is no way to "reset" your skill points - you would need to start a fresh new character to begin to put them where you want! Sorry if that isn't the most convenient for you, but it is the way we are doing things at least in the beta

I have warned both Mulcan and Malphas for your disrespectful and inappropriate language. Please consider being respectful during conversations in the future, thank you.

Hey everyone, please try to be respectful when talking about topics such as this. There are median earnings in each country, but there are still those that earn more or less than that.

I might be wrong but I believe we put in our price for Icarus in USD and let Valve's pricing tool calculate all other foreign market prices. Their tool is what most developers use and is recommended.
