If Riot wants Flex to be taken seriously, it needs some serious work.

What about removing duos from solo queue and incentivizing them to play flex? 2/3/5 stack premades in flex and pure solo in solo queue. It would make matchmaking better and also give people a reason to play flex/take it serious. The game has enough people who want to play ranked but refuse to play solo that they would start playing flex. Throw in some better rewards too just to top it off.

It is something we talk about frequently. I really like the direction of it, but there are some queue health concerns that have held us back in the past.

It's worth reopening the discussion again though.

To me this feels so frustrating. My friend and I were talking about it last night where we feel as if most of the game just winds up being coin flips late since everyone can catch up so easily. Back in the earlier Seasons if you stomped Lane you could translate that advantage into other wins across the map, but now it just feels so punishing to leave since you can't even set up a proper freeze.

I get stomps aren't fun, but it also makes the game feel less competitive

Is the suggestion that the game should be more snowbally/more decided by who wins lanes?

Most Challenges will start at 0, some like collection will be retroactive, some others will also be able to key off of stats we've collected in the past.

You're right. It does need some work. We don't have a full commit on what's next for Flex, but I do like talking about where some of the problems are.

  • Flex MMR --> Other Queue MMR: If you haven't played a lot of games in Flex, it's likely your MMR isn't entirely being taken into account. I'll caveat that with Diamond MMR at Flex means a different thing than Diamond MMR in solo queue, just based off of sheer population in the queue. For solutioning: Flex MMR seeding is probably the big one here. Seeding you into Flex informed from other queue performance would go a long way in ironing out some of those issues, which is something we saw a TON of success with in solo queue for new accounts.
  • Premade Matches: Right now it does try to match you against other premades of the same size, but it's not being strict enough with envelope expansion as it relates to other premade sizes. This is a tough one since the population in the q...

It's definitely not forgotten. The goal of the change was to reduce the proportion of games where one team has an insurmountable advantage, but no incentive to close out quickly. The actual results were a net reduction in average game time between 30 seconds and a minute, and a substantial increase in the overall rate of comebacks, implying that decisive advantages resolve into either victory or a comeback much faster than before (and more of them result in comebacks).

And yes, if you're deeply invested in wave management as your way of expressing dominance, you might be sad at the reduction in consistency / effectiveness of that particular strategy.
