nope. For this team we don't require any experience... just that you have good communication skills, good design sense, and are relatively high ranked. You would need to relocate to California (eventually, after Covid stuff), but we help with relocation costs a bit
I recall Yone's designer talked about a spell he had that, in summary, gave Yone a free dash towards enemy champions after they used a dash. It stuck around in his development for a really long time before they canned it.
Interestingly, Yone W was also a heal and not a shield for the longest time, right up until just before ship!

Early iterations on champions are always fun, Akshan for example had his R as a basic ability when the ability was first introduced onto the kit.

that iteration was wild.... I think Yone went through more iterations than any other champion I have worked on in my 8 years at Riot

dunno if any of the team members are reading this, but if you are: what's the most design iterations you've gone through on something before finally just trashing the idea completely as unworkable?

Just to first create a clear distinction: it's the designer who would decide if an idea is unworkable or not, we'd provide them data & evidence with which to make that decision. Since Pyke is on my mind, for a long time in development his W was true stealth, which we tried to make work in a number of ways before changing it to camo. At one time it was a toggle that consumed a unique secondary resource (he was manaless), eventually we made it a fixed duration, and eventually we made the warning indicator that lets you know he's stealthed nearby (which remained when we converted true stealth to camo).

If I may ask one last question, I know you guys (some of the team) are active on Reddit. But how do you balance this issue with other non-english regions?
If I recall right Malzahar is LOATHED in a lot of the Chinese and eastern servers. But Yasuo is just "okay" and not a big deal. Similar for champs like Fizz. How do you balance that kind of thing?
Or do you find champs like Malz and their penance to be uninteractive just easier to adjust? Because I feel in a lot of regions, people find champions with too much interaction are frustrating, but other regions tend to find champions with not enough to instead be annoying.
We simply use data from all servers, the mistmatch of player preference based on region all gets evened out when you look at the data as a whole, and it also allows us to not hone in on outliers in one region that are fine within a holistic view of the game.

Hey Reav3, thanks for all of your transparency through the Sentinels event and sticking to reddit even though i know you guys caught a lot of shit for the event. I know it must be really difficult to stay connected when it seems a lot of people are ungrateful.
Just a quick question - what are you thoughts on going through with your newer designers on the team and having them focus on more VU’s for champions like Orianna, Janna, Jarvan, Jax, etc? Seems like it could be a win for players but not require quite as many resources as full VGU’s. I think a lot of people would appreciate more Ezreal style updates.
VUs are something we talk about A LOT these days, especially since our outsourcing pipeline has gotten more and more robust. It actually take A LOT of resources to do fully in house since the vast majority of a the resources working on champions are artists. Basically each VU we do on Champions team would mean one less New Champ or VGU that year. Now if we can get to a point where we only do like 10-20% of a VU in house and the rest through outsourcing then it becomes reasonable. Believe me, I would love to bring back VU's, and hopefully it's something we can restart again in the future.
So basically the things that were said earlier aren't actually happening and are just getting pushed back more? It's almost impossible for more humanoids to come out next year and a creature champion and niche humans if nothing is changing until the end of the year. As someone who has been playing since 2012, this feeling of having my interests and wants be shoved to the side as a player really makes me want to quit being invested in a game that has been part of a very large portion of my life. I know that this is likely not your fault, and that you probably don't want this either, but the vague language being used earlier followed by this slap in the face feels like a betrayal of the one thing that was giving me hope in League as everything else I cared about was being torn down and stomped on.
No, I think u will start to see the shift in 2022, but you will see it shift even more in 2023
