Thank YOU for the game! A nailbiter to be sure. I think it was your [[Showdown of the Skalds]] that sealed the deal for you there - so much value! #wotc_staff

I don't understand how WotC keeps making me not want to play Arena. I love Magic, but Alchemy got me to quit playing Arena altogether, then they announced a non-rotating format that has no digital cards (this made me want to come back), and now they announce Alchemy crap. I am back to not playing arena unless/until it is confirmed that this set will not have any digital only cards in it.

The live formats exist alongside the paper-matching formats. Every set is going to have an additional release of alchemy cards. If you are playing Standard or other paper-matching formats only, you can ignore the alchemy releases. They shouldn't affect your formats at all.

The Reality Chip does have a lot of types, but it doesn't quite fit any of the supported blue themes in this build. Maybe next time.

That is all I have to say.

(I’m still having so much fun with Neon Dynasty though, it’s going to be tough deciding what to do...)

I can tell you that Neon Dynasty is well-represented in the card list. (Turns out, when you're trying to find cards that cross over between two or three themes, sagas with three chapters and multiple card types can be preeeetty handy.)

Yup, that’s something we’re working to enable

I'm mostly in favour of removing the beginner set cards, but it's super confusing to log in and see your decks listed as being illegal with no indication of why. :/

Agreed, and sorry for the confusion. This was supposed to be in the State of the Game, but unfortunately got left out. It's a change I think most people will like, but making it confusing certainly doesn't help perception :(

With this release we removed the Arena Base Set cards from Standard legality and moved them to only being legal in our digital-only formats (Alchemy, Historic, Historic Brawl, etc.). This makes Standard exactly match tabletop in both best-of-one and best-of-three. Brawl uses Standard legality, so cards like Murder or Zephyr Gull are no longer allowed because they're not in Standard.

I think the Brawl format staples should be explicitly allowed, however. We'll get cards like Arcane Signet and Command Tower added back soon.

Hey everyone. We posted this in another thread on this issue, but also posting here for visibility! An update here on this issue - which thankfully isn't as impactful as we thought. After further review and testing, we found that this initial bug report didn't operate the way we initially indicated. It should be fixed with the release of Alchemy: Kamigawa, but it will still impact this weekend's event. Going into further detail below:

Smashing and Opus work as expected to remaining targets in the normal case where one or more of that spell's targets for damage are made illegal via hexproof/sacrifice/protection (and one or more legal targets remain). Instead, Smashing/Opus will not do damage only when something above it on the stack has a target that fizzles. So for example, Showdown of the Skalds Chapter 2 or 3: Say the Smashing player controls Showdown, and they cast Smashing. Showdown triggers and targets one of the Smashing player's creatures with +1/+1. If that target i...

Quick question about this. Do I need to submit my one own ticket for this or will we all get the styles without doing that?

No ticket needed, we should be able to find everyone ourselves since we already know what to look for. We will let folks know when this is happening, and if you still haven't gotten it after that point, then send in a ticket.

Came here to say this. That series is so good it’s linked in Arena’s Learn More page (question mark on the upper-right).

And glad to hear you’re enjoying Jump In!

Thanks for the report, we are on it.

Just to set expectations, resolution will most likely come next week. We'll grant the showcase style to anyone who got the depth art from the event, and the event will be fixed for the remainder of its run.

This. No player-facing changes, just some settings tweaks on the backend that should improve reliability.

Newly-created decks in the deckbuilder now default to Alchemy for their format

I'd have to imagine this is what people are basing their takes off, no ?

To be clear, that was supposed to only change the "default sort" - that is, the placeholder that determines which cards are shown until you choose a format by hand. We do want players to be able to see and choose their Alchemy cards in this state if they are just flipping pages aimlessly, but also to still be able to easily choose whatever format they actually intended. The format selector getting overridden and not displaying anymore is a bug.

As for what people are basing their takes off, I generally assume it is their in-client experience.

It's a bug. When you create a new deck, the client is supposed to show the format dropdown right away in the main deckbuilder. It's documented in our system, and we will get a fix out when we can.

(By the way, this would be an incredibly ineffective way to try to "force" players into a game mode anyway. Even if it did result in more decks of that type being saved, players still choose what format they want to play when they enter a queue or an event! It wouldn't accomplish anything except frustrating players, as evidenced by this and other posts about the issue.)
