I believe this is changing over with the August release. (I'm, like, 80% sure...)

Me too :)
When are these coming?

Uhhh, can't you just add whatever you want to your client? Im surprised that people who work on the game don't just have everything unlocked by default.
I mean technically yes, I could. But it’s a pretty religious point for me (and the rest of the team) that we absolutely never would. As one of the other comments points out, we want to have the same experience other players get. We make exceptions in some cases (WotC employees couldn’t play in the Open, so we couldn’t get the Godzilla lands, so we gave employees a code for those), but in general we spend or play to earn the things we want, just like any other player would.
As-a-player, I really wanted those Jumpstart lands. And, even more, as-a-game-director I wanted to understand if this structure was a fun way to collect them. Turns out (for me, at least) it was a blast. I loved checking my targets off my “Land Tier List”, and I feel like I got great value from the event. I’m close to done (after 20+ runs), but I’ll probably do a couple more (really want those Angel lands for my beloved Feather deck).
Nice. Are there new mono decks coming?
There are!
I never knew Unicorns could be so stealthy...
So the blue/black deck doesn't have a mythic? :( As a new player, makes me sad my favorite combo (so far) isn't getting any love.
This version didn't, but we've since added one to the version that will go out to players. (There may also be other changes to the lists for balance and stuff.)
Angels & Milling here, after about 22 runs. There are a couple others I’m missing, but those are the only ones on my “Tier 1 land” list.
The three "billboards" that you see on the landing screen usually show recent or limited-time game modes, but there are others available! If you click the orange "Play" button in the bottom right corner of the client, a popout (we call it the "play blade") will show you all of the different modes in the game right now - like, for instance, Premier Draft Core Set 2021.
This is actually a fairly common issue, and we'd definitely like to help players get more comfortable navigating the client. (This is why you sometimes see a "play blade rework" on our roadmap.)
In non-ranked modes, the game matches you according to your "power level", which is basically "how popular are the cards of your decks". So obviously someone playing playsets of check and shock lands has a bigger "value" than someone playing 20 basics. Also the fact that Jumpstart cards aren't really "calibrated" yet since it got released not long ago, and the elves deck has a bunch of them.
We do not use the deck-strength system for all non-ranked modes, only where we think it's appropriate. It is not being used in this week's FNM mode.
Even where we do use it, mana bases contribute very little, in part to avoid exactly the effect you describe.
@WotC_Lexie:
for when I play at work.Naughty.
Umm I can play MTGA at work, it's considered research! How can I talk about the game, if I don't know the game. :thinking:
