I promise I definitely raised that point! Makes sense to update oddments and the oddments store side by side. I can certainly hope that we can get a fresh new look for the oddments store soon!

Doom, no one is questioning your commitment and passion, we can feel it. You are a Shauny-Tier CM.

I think I earned the right to make the occasional light-hearted comment about my experiences looking back at it.

And I agree.

The problem is your light-hearted comment was a slight at the community. It takes the failure of the last roadmap/battlepass off of Jagex, and blames the reaction of the community.

And I think that is a reflection of Jagex as a company. They blame the failure of the HeroPass on the players for not receiving it well, instead of blaming themselves for trying to release it in the first place.

I know you probably meant for your comment to be light hearted, but not every player will take it that way, especially due to the past circumstances of the last roadmap, and the current circumstance of no roadmap.

(Again I think you're doing a fantastic job)

I appreciate the kind words, and the detailed breakdown of everything.

There was absolutely no slight intended! To be clear, the team absolutely acknowledged the difficult launch of Hero Pass as our mistake, not the players, but I appreciate that it doesn't do much to assuage the concerns that you understandably have right now. The frustrations that you feel are totally valid and I feel them too. Once we share an update with a look at what we're aiming for in 2024, I think I deserve a holiday... 😂

Look, if it gets me through the day and gets me some Necromancy XP, we all get what we want and we can all walk away happy, right?

It's not me, it's you...

It's clearly how this person feels, and it makes me feel sad. So I'm sorry that they feel that way. I can't make them not feel that way - I can try and do what I can to help assuage those feelings, but their feelings are their own. Hope that makes sense.

Just re-add the Yak Coin Shop items to the oddment store, seems like Jagex forgot about them after removing Yak Track.

An excellent suggestion, we've got a treasure trove of items there that we should be celebrating and putting back in the spotlight!

You have to hold your finger on the pedestal, menu opens scroll to ritual pedestal, then click repair all. It would be so much better if I could click the pedestal, then start ritual.

As someone doing a lot of rituals on mobile recently, I feel this in my soul(s).

Hello 'Scapers - I've got a question for you.

Well, 3 questions, actually. We've been talking a lot about Necromancy recently, and a lot of conversations going on about Necromancy as a Combat Style. But I also want to acknowledge the wider skilling element of Necromancy a little further.

To that end, I've put together a few questions that the team have been pondering, and now I want to put them to you to get some more insights from you about things we can potentially explore to tweak in future.

  1. What kind of benefits would you like to see added to Necromancy skilling?
  2. Are there any benefits you'd like to see added OR pain points you'd like to see removed with Necromancy Rituals, in particular?
  3. What kind of reward would you like to see from a future Necromancy themed update? (e.g. from a quest or skilling milestone)

Looking...

This is a very good answer but, and I mean this with all due respect…

This should have been shared ages ago AND this should be in the news post. That’s not a finger wagging scolding, that’s my suggestion for better comms. This is the stuff we need to be blasted as soon as you start to see unrest.

Honestly a great point.

We default to not wanting to put anything up that's a non-announcement as it rightly tends to upset people - but we could have done something like 'Where's the next RuneScape roadmap?' potentially. We might be defaulting to that based on previous reactions a bit too much.

We'll consider it alongside some other changes we're cooking on for the Newspost front. Thanks for sharing this, good food for thought.

What's really amazing is just how crippled development has become due to Hero Pass rejection. It's clear that it was meant to be a delivery vessel for future updates, and to heavily shape into the structure of future game events. What's more, your lack of response in such a long winded waffle about wanting to provide a response, but simultaneously not giving anything of any substance.

I can appreciate the position that being a community manager puts one in, between balancing what your obligations are to your employer (ie. Damage control) and community engagement/appeasement. However I'd much rather no response at all if the result is, well, no response.

It may as well just be put forward that there is no real set destination for Runescape in 2024 because it's development team lacks vision. This game passes hands between one parent company onto the next, each time attempting to revitalize and make a product of the game that's lucrative. Despite the amount of hand...

I getcha on it being a bit of a non response. I was hoping to just provide some context on why there's a delay in a roadmap and make sure people know it's not something we're ignoring, but that is the downside of doing that I admit!

In terms of Hero Pass being a delivery vessel for future updates, that I can confirm wasn't the plan for Hero Pass or the cause of the disruption. Hero Pass was designed as a layer on to other plans rather than an anchoring crutch that compromised content.

The disruption due to Hero Pass is a planning shift - we spent 2023 trying to involve players more than we had done for a couple of years, and keep building on that gradually over 2024.

Off the back of Hero Pass, the shift in planning isn't to do with Hero Pass being cancelled - more of a development mindset shift in how we think about a more player involved RuneScape. That will still take some time to progress this year, but our plans are being re-thought with that even more ...

I don't wish to seem critical but it often feels like when we're upset it falls on deaf ears, and you, Doom, have to try and quell the flames of an upset community.

I like you Doom, but it often feels like Jagex doesn't care about us.

Yes, they are! Maybe I'm too polite in my reports, I shouldn't mince words... I've passed my probation, after all - I don't have to be nice anymore! 😂

I absolutely agree that an update to the Oddment store is a fantastic idea - it's something I've been working with a few of the team on for a while now! (Remember back in May I asked about what missing cosmetics you'd like to see make a comeback? The Superhero items that showed up during Halloween were on that list, among many others...)

It's something that's on our radar, and something that this wider conversation around Oddments has reignited discussions on. So I'll keep raising it and let's hope we can share news of an Oddments store update in the near future!

If you go on X/Twitter and ask Mod Ash or any of the other mods how content or changes are decided upon you get quite a detailed response which shows they really take care before making said decision.

RS3 mods on the other hand you get the extremely poorly recieved *Hero Pass* that literally no one asked for and when someone like Mod Doom is questioned about what the next road map is going to be his response was " Hmmm, I don't know - after the last roadmap, you can understand my trepidation..."

Proof here - https://twitter.com/JagexDoom/status/1742911259287388330

Now im sorry but this shows a clearly differing stance on how the two groups view their community because OSRS constantly ask for feedback whereas RS3 is just content doing whatever they want and only removing stuff if it gets enough negative...

You've very rightly identified the biggest difference there, being that Mod Ash is Product Manager for Old School RuneScape, and I'm a Community Manager. Product Manager is a long ol' way up the ladder from where I'm sat! It would be a great privilege to get to Product Manager level one day, where I can have a much greater impact and make big, scary decisions about the general future of RuneScape - but I'm not quite sure I'm there yet!

I'm very sorry that you feel the way you do, but I still try my best even when I'm here at the grass-roots level with the community every day. I was singlehandedly managing the community during Hero Pass, with the other CMs out of action. I think I earned the right to make the occasional light-hearted comment about my experiences looking back at it. I won't hear any attempts to imply that I'm not committed, passionate and sincere in every interaction. It's just not true.

The Jmods on this project absolutely have respect for this com...

I don't have the technical knowledge to comment on the feasibility of this but I'll raise it with the team as something it'd be worth considering. Cheers!

At least it makes sense to separate them when they're cosmetics like the ones we'll get, for other regular promotions, like the ones from previous weeks it's fine for them to stay in the news posts. They're like 12 Lines of text.

But on the other hand, there's people who are used to read about the latest and upcoming TH Promotions in the Weekly Posts and actively look forward for them.

😬

Idk, i didn't expected this topic to have these many facets ...

I read reddit as well don't worry.

TWIR is aimed to be a catch all of the things happening around when its posted, this can range from updates, patch notes, merch, events and Treasure Hunter Promos.

While I get the want to separate them out I could see it causing trouble (I don't imagine the people wanting to ignore promotions would appreciate more posts coming out that are exclusively for promotions)

This flair caught my eye - the team are aware of this and are looking into it to make sure everything is working as intended. As the flair says - stay tuned.

The intent is that it is readily available to players, there are times while playing you will want to have it on indefinitely but in those situations where you wanna quickly change it (combat for example) having it in the menu causes issues (settings blocking your screen etc)
