Im sure others may have told you but I noticed the loading screen is on but I can hear myself shooting and moving around in the lobby and I often have to pick my first two boons blindly cuz I can hear everything but only still see the loading screen then. Think it seems like folks figured this out, but we fixed this about 2 hours after the update. Sorry about that folks!
We reduced the time waiting in lobby - Just a configuration goof on launch day. Re: ranked mode, that becomes MUCH less likely as you rank up. At lower tiers, you get a lot of "easy" accolades that don't exist at later tiers.
This is not necessarily a bad thing - it means the GPU is being fully utilized: the CPU is keeping the GPU "fed" often enough that it can basically draw frames as fast as possible.
If you want to reduce GPU usage (for heat/power reasons), turn vsync on and/or set a framerate limit.
Give it a shot now - we've been dealing with stability issues but should hopefully be improved. We'll keep monitoring!

"Crossplay off" is a platform requirement; we don't have the ability to merge XB/PS when crossplay is turned off unfortunately.
That said, the new matchmaker will try to keep matches within platform "tiers" (Switch, XB1/PS, PC) if it's at all possible to make a match in reasonable timeframe. This is a big difference/improvement from the old matchmaker. More details on this soon, but the gist is console players will generally only play with other console players.

IIRC Squal stays on you as long as you're in the air, it just matters how you got there now, not how you stay there tho.
