No, Discord Nitro is not needed!
1) The preorder will last two weeks unless we start seeing problems in the server due to the influx of new users. There shouldn't be any problem but you can never be too sure.
2) You will probably have to buy the game on the regional pricing for Japan but other than that I don't think you'll have any problems. The Discord store doesn't have regional blocks as far as I know.
Once you get the skates you can go back to the Volcano and explore it.
The climbing gear is not available right now.
The final game will feature a map of the areas you've explored :)
Just to make sure... If I pre-order the game on Discord, I get access to the Alpha... but then, will I have automatic access to the Early Access (in Discord, of course)? Sorry if it is a dumb question.

Exactly, you're basically buying the game on Discord (pre-ordering it) and getting the Alpha as a bonus for the pre-order. So buying it now will get you:
If we buy the game on discord now, for the Alpha, when the game is full released will I get a key on Steam? I really don't want to get stuck playing it on Discord only (yes I know there's crossplay, but I want it on my Steam account).

No, sorry. You're pre-ordering the game on Discord so you'll have the full game on Discord too.
No, not planned. We prefer to focus on one single platform while we develop the Early Access.
There's going to be a pre-order store in June (no exact date yet) where you will be able to buy the game and get instant access to the alpha as a bonus.
Just for reference, there are over 250 unique dialogues just on the first island alone (the content available right now on the Alpha) and this kind of references are not something common or recurrent.
I personally recommend you to read the full Kickstarter campaign and all the updates we've made so far. They're full of data.
Please make sure you did these steps first:
- You backed the game with at least 30 $. If not, you didn't buy access to the alpha. You can receive more info about the badge you bought in our Kickstarter.
- You confirmed your mail. If not, we can't send you a key to that mail.
