For those wanting a video of it, I'm uploading an Anti-CV Tactics Replay. Should be up in 15 minutes or so.

I'm at work right now, but I'll certainly do a replay review when I get home and let you know if I see anything.

It'll be about two hours or so.

I had a discussion with a co-worker about that. I remembered the Harugumo/Khaba changes, but he told me all the other DDs had already received that change from back before I started playing.

Thanks for the double-verify!

and the triple-verify~

I have about 150ish Lesson Videos over on my Compendium Thread. It'll be a great place for a new player to learn at.

Check out CV-101 and the Coaching Session with WOWStarLord if you're very new and want the beginning stuff in detail.

Ahh... I'm guessing you're playing World of Warships: Legends? This forum is for the PC version of the game <3

The event you're describing isn't in this version~

Armor Piercing shells has a "Fuse" condition. In order for the Fuse to actually light, the shell must strike 1/6th of its caliber in armor thickness. The Italian Battleship mostly have 380s, which would requires a 63+mm piece of plating for the AP Shell to "arm". A short period of time after arming, the shell explodes.

DDs primarily max out at 19mm, though some have 21, 25, or even 50mm plating in various areas. While you might be able to generate a 63mm thickness with an extreme enough angle, the likelihood of getting actual "Pen" damage (the shell priming AND exploding within the ship's hull) is extremely low.

As a general practice, you can expect Battleship caliber AP to only result in Overpens on Destroyers. All Overpens deal 10% of rated damage. SAP shells are forcibly only allowed to Overpen, so they deal the same 10% of rated damage to Destroyers.

It's a new version of Naval Battles that's been implemented. You can earn more Oil by ending up higher in your group, but all teams get a solid amount of reward for participation regardless.

They are slated to be a once a month/every few weeks kind of thing to mix it up a bit~

You might try posting a few replays from when you have a game that you felt uncertain of what to do. Folks here can be quite helpful at pointing out question decisions and offering perspectives.

Also, there is a CC that literally does Replay Reviews as his thing. https://www.twitch.tv/lord_zath is known for assisting players of all types with his Replay Theater on Sundays.

Can you give more information on what you mean? Are you saying you've completed the first two steps of the Dockyard, and the third step hasn't unlocked?

Nice! I finished up my third one over the weekend, too <3

While I don't have a refined timeline, we have stated that we're hoping to get old Operations back in this year

There has been backend work being done on developing AI tools. Once those are finished, the expectation is that we'll be able to get the old Scenarios updated and returned.

There are Operations in the game currently, but there were several that were removed due to changes from the CV Rework back in 2019.

Make sure you're looking at the Rated Damage for both the AP and SAP rounds on an Italian Battleship. They can be similar, or sometimes the SAP is slightly higher. Since both AP and SAP shells will almost always Overpen a Destroyer, they both expect to deal only 10% of Rated Damage against them.

In general, you can take as a given that Italian Battleships are quite weak against Destroyers. No HE salvos mean less damage actually hitting the DD and poor shell grouping means most of your shells would be expected to miss.

They have redeeming qualities though~ Their Concealment and Armor allows them to take more frontend positioning, their SAP avoids Overpenning Cruisers with frail armor, and they have a Smoke Consumable which provides them some options to play with.

Sure, I've heard the concern before. Again, it's not always about your ability to detect something. German ships are great open-water boats with Cruisers that are ready to knife-fight with torps that radar Cruisers don't often have. German HE pen and shell flight time is great. IJN shell grouping and flight time is great too. It really just comes down to what happens in the craziness of the match happening.

Every nation has their own playstyle and capability set, and all Nations are played in the game.

This makes sense. Thank you for the breakdown. Worth noting they say "Ship Type" in the official video~

Having played a wide variety of games like Dungeons & Dragons, World of Warcraft, Diablo, and... well a lot more... the common "Game Term" for picking a Character Type with a unique concept is slang'd out as "Class".

IE: "What's class is your character?" "Oh, he's a Barbarian"

That can further be delineated by "Spec" or "Specialization" which denotes the sub-Type.

IE: "Did you spec for Beserker Fury or Great Weapons?" "Berzerker! It's too much fun"

Please don't mistake my ignorance of military callsigns and processes as something that WG is guilty of. WG is rather obsessed with military history and information, and you can meet some folks here that could certainly school me on these terms as you have done.

For me, I've been trying to take an active role in "getting information out to players" about game design processes and concepts. I understand many folks don't want to know about the game design basis for decisions they don't like, but I've come to learn the Community is old enough to handle mature discussions. I feel many of our players prefer to have the information to make their own judgements with, so I've made it a goal to get helpful information out as opposed to conjecture and misplaced concern.

That conversation would end up being about a ship's "Power Budget". In other words, if a ship has Radar as a part of its kit, then you should expect the ship itself to have a weakened performance parameter elsewhere to account for that.

Ideally, each ship brings a certain amount of "Power" to a match to that each player at a Tier is similar in expectation. This is why the Matchmaker isn't keyed to look for consumables.

As for Radar being powerful, it surely can be. It's highly rated as required in terms of competitive matches and loudouts in Clan Battles. As for Random Battles having a host of uncoordinated players using their ship primarily as just the ship they rode in on however, that's going to be something that factors in long-term statistic-wise.

I'm more a game enthusiast, so perhaps this is a mode of description I'm unaware of.

I did google it just now and saw:

Trying to figure how that might be possible...

If you have Cruiser from a Nation that has a Radar and another Cruiser from that same Nation that doesn't, the matchmaker doesn't differentiate on consumable capabilities. So...

To go extreme with it... you could theoretically have a match with:

6 Battleships:

1 x Constellation (US Tier 8 w/ Radar)

1 x Missouri (US Tier 9 w/ Radar)

1 x Iowa (US Tier 9 no Radar)

1 x Alabama (US Tier 8 no Radar)

1 x Borodino (RU Tier 8 w/ Radar)

1 x Lenin (RU Tier 8 no Radar)

10 Cruisers:

2 x Tallinn (RU Tier 8 Cruiser w/ Radar)

1 x Kutuzov (RU Tier 8 no Radar)

1 x P. Bagration (RU Tier 8 no Radar)

2 x Neptune (UK Tier 9 w/ Radar)

1 x Neptune (UK Tier 9 no Radar)

It'd recommend just using the Rockets for Cruisers and Battleships. The long delay and very tight dispersion make even very strong CV players miss DDs because there's just so much room for error.

The IJN Rockets were never the highlight of the line (except for a brief period post-broadside reticle rework with the Shokaku), so think of them more as verstile strikers that can often pen heavy cruisers that she'll face.
