Game log files are in Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/ and Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/logs/

Launcher log files are in C:/users//AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/

Neither of them log mod installation or use though!

I just installed 2 mods from the PDX mods site by subscription there. One only made a file ucg_xxxxxx.mod , the other a folder pdx_22373 and file pdx_22373.mod , that's all. Neither have the descriptor file you mention. They both appear to work fine.

When you say "fully" you mean it is partially there in some way?

What antivirus app do you use? You need to make sure all these apps are in its exceptions lists:

stellaris.exe and dowser.exe (in the Steam Stellaris folder)
C:/users//AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2.2022.8/paradox launcher.exe
C:/users//AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/bootstrapper-v2.exe

We can only see 2 of your 4 cores in that shot. Are any pegged to 100%?

Your Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU G4560 @ 3.50GHz is about the same performance rating as the game's minimum requirement, the Intel® Core™ i3-2120.

Again in that shot we see there is some spare capacity in the CPUs overall, but not the details per CPU. For that you need to click on Open Resource Monitor there, then on the CPU tab.

I still doubt this is the cause of your crashes though. Is there any particular action or event in the game that seems to trigger it, such as going into the throne room? Because that is a current bug.

I moved your previous identical thread to User Mods, as we cannot help with modded games here. Please follow up on it there.

Half your memory is free there, so I doubt that is your issue.

And 80% CPU usage means 20% idle, again that should not be a problem. You might go into the Performance tab though, see if one CPU is pegging out.

Has it always been like this for you? Or only since when?

Any mods involved?

Does galaxy size make any difference?

DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/settings.txt and pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log .

You may or may not have the same problem cause, as we are months and patches later now.

Just delete your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/settings.txt and pdx_settings.txt files. The game will recreate them at defaults.

Ah, you aren't the OP! Yours is a different problem, the game will not run on Intel videos systems under MacOS any more - that is not and has never been supported hardware for the game. You'll need to revert to 1.5.1.1 unless you can play on a machine with supoorted hardware.

Sorry about that!

8gb ought to be enough, but do make sure you unload everything else you can first.

BTW how are you determined it is memory? Checking with Task Manager perhaps?

Did you try the workaround above?

Can you play unmodded okay? If not someone has a corrupted installation and need to do a clean reinstall.

If you can, then all enable ONE mod only and see if you can then play. If so enable another, test ... etc. You'll soon pin down the problem one.

What antivirus app do you use? Make sure ck3.exe is in all its exceptions lists.

Looks like you have some corrupted save game files in there.

Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-CK3
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK3 AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3 folders
In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam CK3 or Documents CK3 locations, before installing again.

- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add CK3.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test with a new campaign BEFORE restoring the save game files

Is that any better?

Is it anything to do with going into the throne room perhaps?

If so try this workaround

CK3 - PC Update 1.6.0.1

Hi everyone, We have released Update 1.6.0.1 for PC at 10am CEST this morning. The latter aims to fix the recent CPU Support Issue for Fate of Iberia (AVX issue) that you have reported after the release of Flavor Pack 2. Update 1.6.1 will be... ... Read more

In fact you can paste in ~/Library/Application Support/ . Make sure you include the tilde ~   ... Read more

That shows there is some problem with your original user profile. It's beyond me to diagnose that I'm afraid! You may need Windows Support help on that.

In fact at the end of that dxdiag we see several worrying Windows errors and crashes, so I think you do have a Windows problem. WOuld you say you're seeing issues outside this game?

In the Speccy file we see several Windows updates failed or In Progress going back to October last year. So I fear you may have to do a Windows Reset !

Sorry about that!
