If the game runs from eu4.exe then we are back to a launcher problem, although why you can run eu4.exe but it cannot I'm not sure.

What antivirus app do you use? You need to make sure all these apps are in its exceptions lists:

EU4.exe and dowser.exe (in the Steam Eu4 folder)
C:/users//AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2.2021.3.1/paradox launcher.exe
C:/users//AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/bootstrapper-v2.exe

If that doesn't help, you could try setting them all to run as the Windows Admin user too.

I don't understand why that helped as using a VPN bypasses all that anyway. And the crossplatform version uses completely different ports than Steam does.

I suspect there is something else happening here ! What upload/download speeds do you all have?

Looking up that error it seems to relate to having /tmp/ mounted as non-writable, is that the case here?

If so I think this is the workaround:
mount -o remount,exec /tmp

In each game, In the game launcher please set Display mode to Borderless.

That will probably fix both.

Frankly, me either! You are saying the game has the focus yet keystrokes still appear in the command line in the background? Not at all normal of course.

Has it always been like that with this game? Our similar game Crusader Kings 2 is free to play on Steam, does it happen there too?


And, why are you not running the game from Steam or our standalone client?

Sounds like your issue is with our launcher not the game, is that right? PLAY in Steam does not start our launcher?

If so Please try this:

- exit the Steam app entirely
- uninstall Paradox Launcher v2 from the Windows "Apps and features" utility, if still present.

Delete the following folders if still present:

- C:/users//AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users//AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users//AppData/Roaming/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
To see the AppData folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.

- run steam.exe as the Windows Admin user

- run the game from the PLAY button in Steam

IF that doesn't help, in this folder are some .log files:
C:/users//AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
Please attach them here.

My guess would be this was triggered by a Windows update not installing perfectly; you could try running the Update app and apply everything it finds, then this Windows repair tool:

Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-CK3
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK3 AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3 folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add CK3.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam CK3 or Documents CK3 locations, before installing again.

I don't recall any previous such reports, but I guess it is unsurprising you can add enough tracks to exceed the design parameters of that function.

I guess all you can do is remove tracks from one of the mod sets until the problem doesn't happen.

You could report it as a game bug in the Bug Reports forum if you managed to determine how many is the critical amount.

An interesting one!

Steam writes the cloud saves to .../Steam/userdata/YourSteamID#/281990/remote/save games/ , so I guess you could alt-tab out and check they are there and have been updated.

When you exit the game it then syncs them up to the Steam cloud.

That pretty much confirms the issue is in Windows somewhere. In previous situations like this the fix has been to uninstall audio drivers and reboot, and let Windows reinstall them.

I guess that is still worth a shot here, although with two drivers affected this may be deeper in WIndows as I say.

Was this okay until you started playing with ctrl-minus? Or it was it like that from the first run?

- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.

In particular you need to make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam Stellaris or Documents Stellaris locations, before installing again.
