Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere, and user_empire_designs.txt from /Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/ if you have made any custom empires or races.
- "uninstall" in Steam-Stellaris
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/Stellaris AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add stellaris.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- add stellaris.exe to the exceptions list of your firewall app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to both the Public and Private domains there
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular you need to make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam Stellaris or Documents Stellaris locations, before installing ... Read more

I don't see EU4 in Task manager there so I guess this is a Steam problem. Please try a

No real ideas here, sorry. Does your firewall record having blocked the game or our launcher?

We've seen several reports about this and found that the most common causes are as follows:

In the game launcher please set Display mode to windowed.

IF that doesn't help, Install ALL these Microsoft modules:

Does it make any difference if you start that ironman game as cloud or local?

Is this just in particular saves, perhaps from older game versions?

Or does it happen if you go to start a new game now too?

Please try this:

- exit the Steam app entirely
- uninstall Paradox Launcher v2 from the Windows "Apps and features" utility, if still present.

Delete the following folders if still present:

- C:/users//AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users//AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users//AppData/Roaming/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
To see the AppData folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.

- run steam.exe as the Windows Admin user

- run the game from the PLAY button in Steam

IF that doesn't help, in this folder are some .log files:
C:/users//AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
Please attach them here.

Note that you can run ck3.exe directly from File Explorer, which bypasses the launcher.

I can see it under your name there?

Please try the following:

- unsubscribe from all mods

- delete the folder Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/mod/

- delete the file Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/mods_registry.json

- delete the file Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/launcher-v2.sqlite

Add CK3.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list. You should add steam.exe and C:/users//AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2.2021.4.1/paradox launcher.exe to that list.

- subscribe to a few mods

- run the game up and see if those mods are now available to you.

I hope that does it for you!

Are you all on the Steam or a non-Steam version? or mixed?

If mixed, the Steam players need to opt into the crossplay branch in the Steam betas tab for this game.

In the game launcher please set Display mode to Borderless. You'll probably find that will fix it all by itself.

good luck!

I suspect you too have an antivirus issue - which one do you use?

It should have a place where it lists recently blocked apps. go there and allow stellaris.exe through.

Good luck!

BigMundo said: Not sure if you're still having this issue but I tried all of the above and nothing worked for me and then I uninstalled the paradox V2 launcher and then when I launched again through steam this redownloaded and booted up no issues.

Search: Add or Remove Programs -> Paradox Launcher v2 -> Uninstall -> Launch Steam -> Run Stellaris -> Allow this to redownload.

Worked for me so maybe will work for some other people as well but I did follow all the steps so maybe this also helped.
Not sure but I feel there is possibly an issue with the launcher that is causing this from a...

That doesn't look like one of our errors. Is that in Steam, the launcher, or the game?

DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/settings.txt and pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/logs/ folder, attach system.log , error.log .

Your AV apps should have dialogs where they say what .exe files they've blocked recently. If ck3.exe and stellaris.exe are mentioned there you can allow them there.

Then it sounds very much like those AV apps getting in the way. Both should have a screen where they tell you what apps they've blocked recently, check for stellaris.exe and allow it through in thise dialogs.

I'm not aware of this as a bug but it could be a new one, I was on leave for a while.

In Windows you'd use the nVidia GeForce Experience or fraps to limit the game's fps to get around such a bug, I don't know enough about Linux options in that area to suggest a similar workaround, sorry.

Some game controllers and joysticks affect this game that way. Unplug any such devices before starting the game.

If that does not help you or does not apply, you have an unrelated problem and should start your own thread, thanks.
