I think the game is having trouble finding the standard documents folder.

In Windows Explorer Right click on Documents, just below This PC. Go to Properties, location. Does that say oneDrive or c:\users\.... or elsewhere?

If OneDrive, did you want your documents stored in MS's servers? If not it's probably best to undo that.

In the game launcher please set Display mode to Borderless.

IF that doesn't help, Install ALL these Microsoft modules:

Download Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) from Official Microsoft Download Center

This is only with the mouse wheel? Scrolling with the keyboard does not do this?

Has this always happened since you've had the game, or it was okay up to some point?

Does this affect EU4 also?

That launcher is not up to date but looks like it is trying to. Does it eventually do that and put an orange dot up the top left? Then when you exit and rerun it does it say the current launcher version 2021.1 ?

Exit the Steam app entirely then run stellaris.exe directly from WIndows Explorer. Do you see any Windows error when you do that?

Does CK3 work on this machine okay? How about it's predecessor CK2?

You have McAfee VirusScan installed, although disabled. If you are not using it I suggest you uninstall it completely with the free Revo Uninstaller utility.

That said, that's not one of the AV apps we know to cause this issue, so that's unusual!

You mention OneDrive , is your Windows User Documents folder on there? or in the default place on C: ?

In that dxdiag we see at least three unrelated crashes in stellaris.exe , frankly not sure what to make of that!

G2A are a grey market vendor who resell keys that can be stolen or bought with fraudulent credit cards. We got none of your purchase money, which is why they are so cheap.

Almost certainly Steam have detected that and revoked those keys.

Please only buy from our store, Steam, or one of our authorised resellers:

DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7 or later). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/Stellaris/settings.txt and pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox/Stellaris/logs/ folder, attach system.log , error.log .

And please install and run the free utility Speccy. Send its output to a text file and attach that here, thanks.

If you played MP with a friend with this DLC and they were host, you can't load that same saved game unless you too have this DLC. Is that the situation?

The other time we've seen this is solo play under GeForce Now.

Issues like this are never anything to do with firewalls. Antivirus, sometimes, but never firewalls.

In the game launcher please set Display mode to Borderless.

IF that doesn't help, Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere, and user_empire_designs.txt from /Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/ if you have made any custom empires or races.
- "uninstall" in Steam-Stellaris
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/Stellaris AND Documents/Paradox/Stellaris folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add stellaris.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular you need to make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam Stellaris or Documents Ste... Read more

The only way anything gets removed from a Steam library is if Steam remove it. You don't seem to have bought that DLC from us, did you get it from Steam directly or some third party?

If from Steam directly it will be in your purchase records there, if so you can contact their account support and ask why it was removed.

If it was from some third party, who was that exactly please?

Some of those errors look like a bad installation or mod - no mods in use here, is that right?

Let's try a clean reinstall:
- move any valued save games elsewhere, and user_empire_designs.txt from /Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/ if you have made any custom empires or races.

- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/Stellaris AND Documents/Paradox/Stellaris folders

Has this always happened ever since you've had the game? Or only since what change or update?

When it freezes can you kill it with Task manager and restart it okay? Or you need to reboot, or wait a while until you can run the game?

Does it ever happen soon after. starting play, or only in long play sessions?

Does this affect CK2, HOI4, and/or EU4 also?

Launcher is still stuck on old version, hard to see why now. Let's try forcing an update of the launcher.

Download the installer package for Windows: https://forumcontent.paradoxplaza.com/emailsignatures/2021.1-win-prod.zip

Unpack the file you just downloaded and place the three files in the Steam folder for the game you're having issues with. If asked if you want to replace already existing files click "yes" - that's a sign you are in the right place!

Then please repeat the launcher reinstall procedure from before.

Good luck with that!

Then you may need to contact AVG support to see what else you have to do to get steam.exe , ck3.exe and paradox launcher.exe full access to the Windows user Documents folder.

That really looks like the antivirus app is still getting in the way. Which one do you use? Most cases of this problem are Avast or AVG, although others are possible.

Do the mod files end up in Documents/paradox/CK3/mod/ ?
