Don’t use the variable name. You need to put in the full file path exactly as displayed in Windows Explorer, starting with C:/ etc.

Shinxu said: @AndrewT there was not update to Stellaris or its launcher last week?
The last update to Stellaris was 2.8.1 in November. The latest client 2021.1 was released on February 12. When or how such things get applied to what GFN serve up to you I do not know, I'm sorry.

The mod registry is an old file no longer used. I just like to clear it out if it is still left there. The sqlite file does that job now.

To get the launcher to use that same folder, you need to edit launcher-settings.json file there. Change the gameDataPath line to point to the Steam folder where stellaris.exe is.

I don't understand how it can return to the launcher, as the launcher is not involved when you run stellaris.exe directly ... ?!? The launcher is completely unloaded at this point, is that right?

This is when the game is set to 1792 x 1120 , is that right? I think the problem is that neither of these resolutions:
Desktop Resolution: 1792 x 1120
"fullscreen_resolution"={
value="1536x960"
Are listed in the supported ones in that system.log. I think any of them in there from 1280 x 800 upwards will probably work for you.

What launcher version do you see? Current is 2021.1

And what antivirus do you use?

Pushka_Pushkin said: And I state one more time - it worked flawlessly before Friday, so it's clearly a problem, that's connected to Launcher update.
Our launcher did not get a new update on Friday. Are you theorising that it was deployed on GFN for the first time then? Mind you if so and it caused this problem to every GFN player we'd be flooded with similar complaints for every game .... !

Your settings and empires are still in your Documents folder. If you move them to under the Steam/stellaris/ folder, you'll have access to them again.

74c is getting up there, are you sure it never goes over 80c?

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/CK3/pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox/CK3/logs/ folder, attach system.log , error.log

Sesshaku said: In Imperator, the problem was kind of fixed by disabling the "object map" feature. But that's something I neved had to do when playing CK3. I don't even know if such a graphic feature exists in CK3
You could try disabling Character SSAO, that's helped in some cases.

Unfortunately the standalone Paradox client (aka launcher v1) does not have a resume or verify option, all you can really do is keep trying, or uninstall the game entirely then install it from scratch which will install the latest game version.

Good luck!

In the game launcher please set Display mode to windowed.

IF that doesn't help, Has the game ever run OK on this computer? Or never?

IF NEVER:
Install ALL these Microsoft modules:

Download Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) from O...

The launcher in your OP screenshot here is on 2020.11 and has an orange dot meaning an update has been applied. If you exit and restart that launcher there it should then be updated to 2021.1 .

However the game syncing updates to the Steam cloud is nothing to do with the launcher, which at that point is completely unloaded. It is purely between the Steam client and the Steam cloud , and happens when the game is exited.

Now with GFN (which I don't have and have never seen live), what happens when you exit the game ? Are you on a desktop or do you exit the GFN session entirely? I ask because if GFN kill the session before the game can sync up the cloud saves, that would explain what you are seeing.

SchfiftyFive55 said: I am having a crash problem as well. Same time 12.19 each time I load. Here is my log. Hellllp! lol Near I can tell is the game sends a command to shutdown but I cannot figure out why. Edit: I dont use AV of any kind but I did add an exception to windows defender and firewall as instructed. Game/launcher/gfx all latest v.
The OP here has a problem starting a new game or creating a new empire. But that doesn't sound like your problem at all, is that right? Your issue is when loading an existing save, is that right?

What happens if you set the game at the Mac's desktop resolution?

The launcher looks fine now, great.

I didn't follow what happened when you ran stellaris.exe directly from Windows Explorer, which bypasses the launcher. Do you see a Windows error when run that way?

Is it exactly that? Because I'm not sure that looks right ...

Please the attached file userdir.txt in the Steam folder where stellaris.exe is. It tells the game to write the user files right there, not under Documents. Then run stellaris.exe directly from Windows Explorer, can you create an empire then?

I suggested borderless display mode but I see it is still in fullScreen. Please try borderless, it's a common issue.

If that doesn't help, exit the Steam app entirely then run stellaris.exe directly from Windows Explorer. Do you see any Windows error then?

By default WASD scroll the game map around. I thought PageUp/PageDown zoomed, but maybe I'm thinking of another game.
