That /mod/ folder looks right, in general, but as we don't support modded games here I can't say whether you've installed them correctly.

I'm not sure what you mean there, I am sorry.

I suggest you post in the User Mods forum here, as they'll have more experience with manually-installed mods.

Good luck!

What happens if you run stellaris.exe directly from File Explorer? Any Windows error show then, or does it run okay?

I'm afraid that the new launcher version no longer runs on obsolete Windows versions.

If you can update to Windows 10 or 11 that is the best way forward, given that Steam will no longer run on them either next year.

Otherwise please check this thread on the situation

Nothing like that can happen until mid-January at best, as virtually all of Paradox are on their annual winter break. Sorry!

Obviously, nothing of use in that log!

I guess if this is repeatable from a given saved game, it has to be a game bug (maybe a Linux-only) one, and can be posted in a new thread in Bug Reports.

Meantime do you have access to a Windows machine, and so can test those saves there - see if they get the same crash?

When you subscribe to mods in the Paradox Mods site, and then run the game from Galaxy, our launcher ought to download the mod files and place them in that /mod/ folder; which it will also create if not there.

If you are manually installing mods, for some reason, then yes you'd also have to manually make that folder.

Please try this:

- uninstall Paradox Launcher v2 from the Windows "Apps and features" utility, if still present.

Delete the following folders if still present:

- C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Roaming/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
To see the AppData folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.

- exit the Steam app entirely
- run steam.exe as the Windows Admin user

- run the game from the PLAY button in Steam

IF that doesn't help, in this folder are some .log files:
C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
Please attach them here.
To see the AppData folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.

Note that you can run stellaris.exe directly from File Explorer... Read more

We have three possible workarounds that may solve it:

Disable IPv6
- Close CK3
- Go to Control Panel > View Network status and tasks > Change adapter settings (left side)
- Find your Hamachi Connection and Disable it
- Find your Internet connection adapter (for me, it was WiFi)
- Right click your internet adapter and select properties
- Scroll down to find "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) and uncheck the box
- Select Ok
- Start up CK3 and should work.

Disable all other network adapters
Go to Windows Control panel.
Click on Network & Internet.
Click on View Network Status.
Quick Tip: You can also quickly access these settings by right-clicking the network icon in the taskbar and selecting the Network & Internet settings option.
Click on Change adapter options.
Right-click all network adapters that are not connected to the internet and select the Disable o... Read more

Right click on ck3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, cap refresh rate at 60, renderer DX11.

If those don't help:
DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log , exceptions.log

You see post #10 in that thread, from a developer? That's very similar to what you are seeing.

I see you are using the experimental nVidia driver series. is it possible to try the standard one?

That aside, the lack of exceptions.log tends to point to something outside the game, as does the lack of repeatability. Quite what I cannot see!

This started after the current patch, you mention. Is it happening only in a galaxy that was started under a previous patch? Or also any started under that new patch?

You are 100% sure the game is NOT in debug mode?

That there was nothing whatsoever in the Steam-CK3 or Documents-CK3 folders, before installing again?

That you have NO mods enabled?

Maybe, can we see screenshots showing each of those please?

If you have a VPN, connect via that before you start the server. That will take any firewalls out of the equation.

So by implication, a clean launcher reinstall will get it working at least once. However it is hard to see how the launcher could have the effect you see!

I see your monitor's native res is 3840 x 1080 - can you try that in the game please?

If no better, try 1920x1080 , which was I think the best res in existence when this game was written.

I see a bunch of potential problems in this machine, but I think the main issue is the integrated AMD video system, which is well below the game's minimum requirements:
Graphics: Nvidia® GeForce™ GTX 460 or AMD® ATI Radeon™ HD 5870 (1GB VRAM), or AMD® Radeon™ RX Vega 11 or Intel® HD Graphics 4600

You could check with HP support for un updated driver for it, or AMD:
http://support.amd.com/en-us/download
If that doesn't help or there isn't one, please seek a refund from the store you bought from.

Sorry for the bad news!   ... Read more

From what you say, probably, yes. But try a few things:

Right click on eu4.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.

Edit that settings.txt to say:

refreshRate=60
fullScreen=yes
borderless=no

vsync=no

Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode.

IF that doesn't help:
DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

FYI we don't have any insight into the GFN processes or infrastructure.

Does this ONLY happen via GFN, if you run it locally what happens?
