Honestly I think skilling outfits are in a really weird place. The same thing applies to things like the achievement diary armours as well. My preference would be for benefits like this to be changed into passive unlocks in some way (perhaps as a default, perhaps as an additional unlock to make them passive like how the new varrock diary works). This is a reasonably big project though, but it's definitely on my mind.

Or even herblore shop runs (think of bomb/powerburst vials) to allow us to buy bomb vials for 10 - 20x their grand exchange price.

This could combat that limitations of G.E. limits instead of having to ask other people to buy items for you + it helps ironmen who have a lot of gp but nothing to spend it on.

I'm not sure about this exact suggestion, but I would say in general we've leant hard into item sinks rather than money sinks, and actually money sinks would be more beneficial to the health of the game right now. Broadly speaking, I definitely support spending coins to alleviate things in game.

It's old, the POH code is a mess, and POH's just aren't used anymore except for edge cases.

I know it, you know it, we all know it.

Are there any plans to give Construction a solid, actual benefit to the player? In the past this was to show off your POH, and accomplishments there to other players, as well as provide QoL features that are now mostly surpassed by other sources.

A full rework, an alternative to POHs (Player owned towns?), or something, anything, else?

And if the answer to this is no, then why not? What's the reasoning behind neglecting one of the most fondly remembered skills in the game? Especially one with the highest money-sink potential.

I would distinguish between a full rework and the more general problems "it's not great to level" and "there's not much reason to level it". Fixing those problems is actually much easier than doing a full rework, and is something I'm actively pushing to see happen.

Can we possibly expect such a similar 'hub', but for skillers?

Something like the 'Skiller's Grove', where you can attune portals to specific skilling locations, a similar portal directed towards the 'newest' skilling addition, and perhaps even an earnable currency akin to Marks of War (Marks of Skill?) with which players can purchase upgrades and whatnot? (This would also be the 'perfect' way to introduce a 'master' skilling outfit which allows you to add other skilling outfits to it, and would serve as a high end skilling reward in the Skiller's Grove)

This is a complicated topic. Broadly speaking I agree that there should be a "skilling hub" but there are a bunch of competing concepts:

  • Max Guild
  • War's Retreat
  • POH

Personally my take would be that isolating players into solo instances (as in the POH) or segregating high level players (as in the max guild) are the wrong approaches to this. I also don't think that war's retreat should be a key unlock for skilling, so it seems to me there's a clear case for a skilling hub. However, you can see elsewhere even just in this thread requests to restore the primacy of the max guild or POH, so it's not super clear cut.

Personally, I want to see a longer logout timer. I may not be aware of any issues involved so I'm wary of promising anything.

Yes, these are tied together.

See my comment to Mod Miva earlier today here. I can get behind a lot of what you've said here. I work in a production style environment with crunch periods and tight deadlines. Some days it gets frustrating hearing from a customer rep that someone was something as simple as not satisfied. Largely, I'm insulated from dealing with anyone directly and certainly wouldn't have to read that someone thinks I did a shit job, so my experience diverges from yours there. However, if I heard from anyone that customers in general were largely unsatisfied because orders kept being shipped out incorrectly, I'd start to think that there's a breakdown in our policies or communication somewhere. And from a lot of perspectives here,...

Communication in the sense you mean is a tricky one and I largely agree with where you're coming from. It's essentially partly a factor of the relationship between design and marketing (which I just need to resolve internally, no one is doing anything wrong it's just the responsibilities are not well defined) and the other is just that I'm basically new to the job. I've been spending the last few months developing what is essentially a vision statement for RS3 (and chatting about it a bit on discord with players) but I don't have anything "ready to go" yet. My rough plan is to do something like weekly fireside chats talking about various topics, most importantly like what my job even is, and in principle that could be a good way be a lot more communicative. Essentially the same as what I do on discord but to a wider audience. That's not a trivial thing to set up, but it's still my plan for the medium term.

Runescape has a massive problem with MTX and exploiting player's FOMO. You know this. I know you're smart enough to get it. And that's why people are upset because you refuse to address it. And then there are bugs like Fire Giants that have yet to be addressed as well, amidst three weeks of concentrated predatory MTX events.

This is exactly what I'm talking about in the final paragraph. Whatever I can comment on, I comment on (on discord at least, where I'm pretty open to talking about almost - almost - everything). You're "calling me out" for not talking about the topic you (and to be fair, the majority of the sub) want to discuss, and essentially implying that I shouldn't discuss anything else in the meantime. The only possible outcome of that is no communication at all.

I've been thinking a lot about the term "constructive criticism". I've had some people accuse me or others of using as a shield, essentially labelling any disagreement as harassment and thus using it as an excuse to ignore it, and while that isn't true (we don't get to "ignore feedback" for made up reasons, ultimately players either like it or they don't), I do think it's quite an important distinction to draw.

For me, and looking at the behaviour patterns of other people I don't think this is unusual, the question isn't really about whether the feedback is "constructive" exactly, it's simply about whether it's rude and whether it's personal. Obviously the more detailed the feedback the better, but even a simple black and white opinion is "constructive" when we have enough of them to gather a general impression.

TLDR it's fine to say you don't like something, just don't be rude and don't make it personal.

I'll try to give an abstract example. Say I've shippe...

How many lapsed players, roughly, do you think, based on the data Jagex has collected or you own opinion, will grind out 104m xp in any skill in a 4 month span even with the xp boost? People are maxing for the first time ever despite having access to double xp/mtx with 20 year veteran capes. It's very clearly targeting the diehard RS3 players that are willing to invest a lot of time/money to get the best possible xp gains and subsequently get top 100 in a respective skill, reach world firsts, so they can carry over the tradeable to their mains. There won't be a single "lapsed" player that get top 100 or a world first.

At this rate, jagex would be ...

Your title is vague and not aimed at anyone specific. It's pretty obviously untrue (the vast majority of what we do is aimed explicitly at existing players, like you think zamorak or twilight of the gods were designed to appeal to new players?) but I get it, you're annoyed and you're venting about it in a slightly hyperbolic way. No harm, no foul, that's just how it is on reddit sometimes. Players want to give their feedback and there are a bunch of threads on similar topics not targeting anyone in particular.

But you then post a picture of me in support of your title where I'm not actually saying the thing you're claiming I'm saying in your editorialising. Maybe you're honestly misinterpreting me, fair enough, but now it's no longer targeted at "jagex", now it's a thread calling me out specifically for not caring about existing players.

This is a pretty big deal to me for three reasons. Firstly it's just insulting to me personally. I (and a lot of others) ...

You talk about growth of the game, but if actions you take to attract new/lapsed players result in the loss of current players then are you not just unnecessarily pissing off your loyal playerbase for the 'hope' of players that might not even come.

Yes, it's something we're very conscious of. It's a topic that creates a lot of internal debate on any relevant project, and similar sorts of discussions on every project.

This is what was said about bank rework and placeholders.

That is what was said about trading above max cash on GE

A lot of things werent possible until they were done

That's what I said - it's not currently possible, they're working on it, but it can't be done for this year.

Apparently dmm/leagues have been really good in OSRS for current and lapsed players alike and it seems like this is a missed opportunity to introduce one. The boons and rewards already make it almost feel like a league but with potential risk thanks to Fresh Start accounts introducing items to the main game.

As they mentioned in the livestream, we can't currently create leagues in the way they work in OSRS. I don't fully understand the technical details, or why Darkscape works differently, but that's the case as explained to me by the tech guys. I believe they are currently working on it, but it's not something that we can get working in RS this year. Personally it's something I'm keen on doing (we used to have a regular brainstorming meeting just to develop alternate game modes like leagues), but I can't make any promises about future content at this stage.

Then why do you require people to make a new account?

As a former lapsed player, the idea of coming back to the game, just to have to start again and not carry on my old account does not appeal at all...

Oh yeah I should have clarified this, I'll edit the original post.

Pretty misleading title tbh.

I won't say it's "taken out of context" because I did say that, but it's kind of dishonest to clip part of the conversation and then title it to make it look like I'm saying something I'm not.

The intention of FSW is to appeal specifically to lapsed players. Right now it is our company policy that our best bet for increasing the health and longevity of RS is to specifically try to appeal to lapsed players (as opposed to new players). As Kalaya mentioned on the livestream, we talk to lapsed players about why they're lapsed and what would interest them in coming back.

FSW is an example of us trying to deliver to lapsed players something that would interest them. The people who are on reddit and in livestreams are not (for the most part) part of the lapsed audience we're trying to reach here - they're either existing players, or players who quit for some specific reason and are hanging around the community waiting for it to be chang...

Yeah it annoys me a little when people say we don't communicate. Honestly non-CM talking openly and personally to players is pretty rare outside of (some) indie devs who are kind of their own community managers.
