Just confirmed with the devs and we'll update the newspost with the information accordingly. From what was said in the game update call, iron men can't get loot but they can get the buff. The buff is purely determined by your damage but the loot is determined by everyone's damage if that makes sense.

Hey everyone! We'll be live on Thursday 3rd February on Twitch with our regular weekly Q&A live stream! Woohoo!

Now is the time to get your questions in! Ask away!

Wednesday's game update also includes (but is not limited to) Rev cave and Wilderness-related content - we'll make a note of topical questions from the game update post and ask those. Outside of this, we're looking for General questions!

Note: I haven't confirmed the guests yet as a lot of devs seem particularly busy this week. If I can't get guests sorted, your questions will roll over to our next suitable Q&A. :)

I'd also like to invite any feedback about our live streams in general. What types of streams might you want ...

I can see the skilling update here.png) for team 3. Is this what you mean?

In the Android Beta newspost we mentioned that the end of January 2022 was only an estimate and subject to changes. More news will be coming on that front when we can share it - will likely be via a newspost!

Pretty sure the PvP arena is what's replacing the duel arena - I haven't been working on this project but that's my understanding. It was mentioned in the Gazette for Q2 of this year.

Next wildy update should be tomorrow from what I can see. Our next 'big' blog as well should be sharing more news about what's replacing the Duel Arena. Don't know when that's out yet but we're working on it!

I had some alerts set up when -Maxy- was doing them and he kept the naming as "<info> - Old School Developer Q&A - Transcript <date>" so i never had any issues

there been less of a consistent titling scheme since the official transcripts started happening so my filter is pickup up a bunch of noise

thanks

Of course! :) I will try to keep this format as I know that American/British dates are sometimes phrased differently!

Hi guys. I just wanted to post the Q&A Summary for this week to give you a bit more information from the developers about Guardians of the Rift that was discussed on stream last week. In this stream, we talked a bit more about XP rates, the blood altar, the GotR pet and more.

Some of the answers have been tweaked to make them more readable in written format, but please be sure to check out the VOD on YouTube if you'd like to hear them!

Unfortunately, we couldn't get around turning around a Q&A Summary last week - but we'll try to keep them up whenever we can. Information sharing is super important!

I also wanted to mention that yesterday I added a small extra paragraph into the GotR blog about the blood altar because we didn't provide much info on it. If you check the ...

Trust me it's a topic dear to my heart! We have had a couple conversations about this as a team but we haven't come to a solution or decision yet on how to proceed with it so not much I can say about it atm. :<

We’ve recently had a lot of problem with the latest Nex-update such as application crash, screen-freeze and tremendous lagspikes because of the amount players in one place. These problems happens a lot for us mobile-players and not just in Nex as almost 3/4 of all in-game contents.

I’ll be honest, if there are loads of players in one space it may result in some issues. However we are hoping that when the new client launches on mobile, this problem will be less of an issue. It’s still something the team is investigating and seeking a resolution for.

Why are we adding another skilling outfit? Are we not sick of graceful everywhere, this will just mean everyone doing rc has the same bland gear.

At least with lava runecrafting you can wear some fashionscape as graceful bonus barely matters. Now it's more clothing people feel obligated to wear when doing this skill.

I actually feel like it gives a bit more player choice - you can either choose to save on stamina potions with graceful or get more tunes with the Skilling outfit. But I totally respect your stance on it!

But click intensity should not be the decider for XP rates, determining how the actual minigame plays out. You get Wintertodt that gives tremendous amounts of XP compared to other games, and that is nowhere near click intensive, the money is actually alright, as too are the rewards. But that skill offers nothing.

You can also argue the same for RC. You can kill almost anything in PvE and receive runes of all kinds. So it makes doing the skill useless in retrospect.

WT gives seeds & it gives logs, a tome which is useful especially late game for spells like fire surge. WT gives fletching XP & WC XP.

This minigame will provide nothing new to the game. And worst case scenario, because of the lack of buffed XP rates it will end up like Trouble Brewing. Nobody wants to touch it because it lacks purpose.

I believe wintertodt literally killed firemaking as a skill being trained anywhere else right? Or at least that’s what I’ve heard haha. I think the intention with this design is literally just to offer a more fun way of training the skill. I am confident that we can make balancing changes if the majority of players really don’t feel it’s worth their time - it should have a place. It’s just not our intention to make it the only place.

Nice. Gives me some time to ideate for our next RC update - Tears of Jmods.

With all due respect, 99% of people think that is a poor design decision, yet you guys don’t care…?

It’s a bit of a stretch to say we don’t care but I understand why you are getting that impression and I’m genuinely sorry if you feel that way! Basically it comes down to the fact that a medium intensity minigame should not be offering more XP than a sweaty method would - as much as you might dislike the method and want to see it become dead content. The design goal of the project is to offer a more fun and engaging training method and is not intended to be an overhaul and rebalancing of RC XP rates. I have certainly passed on the feedback to the team about it though! Reddit is one of my favourite places and I’m usually in agreement with you guys on most things!

I keep seeing misinformed players, and its apparent members at Jagex as well. You do NOT need a high magic level, nor lunars to do lavas/steams, unless you're an ironman, as the limited amount of talisman drop tables. I prefer if we don't introduce the new pouch, and instead make the minigame a profitable minigame, with little to NO XP. Make it on par with natures (20-25K/h). Natures with POH is ~32K(?). Also, as I did some reading, it appears that you are solving the talismans shortage with a reward shop offering the talismans that people would need to make combo runes.
EDIT: Also...

I think the main point is that Lunars/Magic/Binding/Runners/Click intensive ness etc is what makes Lava RC offer the highest rates at maximum efficiency? I am aware that it’s possible to craft them without such requirements but the benchmark XP rates are based on players doing them at max effort. Which is why we wouldn’t want to offer a minigame that gives comparable XP rates to that method.

I understand the feedback about XP - it’s runecrafting after all - but if players generally dislike that method that’s another issue. It is obvious from the feedback on Reddit that you’d like it to become dead content. However that issue is outside the scope of this project and it’s probably better to take a look at it separately. The focus of the minigame is to offer an engaging and fun alternative runecrafting method
