With the launch of Shadowlands, great numbers of players have left Azeroth for the afterlife, dramatically increasing player populations on every realm. For a small number of realms, demand has been overwhelming, and we’ve been working around the clock to address issues on those realms and make the game available to the maximum number of players.

Today, we’ve enabled the Free Character Transfer service for players who have characters on high population realms that are experiencing consistent, extended queues. If this service is available on your realm, you’ll access it in the Services section of the Shop on your character selection screen for that realm.

Please note:

  • You cannot select a destination realm that also has a high population.
  • Realm to realm character transfers take time to complete, and the duration is higher when more players are using the service.
  • You cannot log in to your character until...

Following the release of WoW Classic patch 1.13.6 on December 1, we’ll open Naxxramas and kick off the Scourge Invasion on December 3 at 2:00 p.m. PST (5:00 p.m. EST)(9:00 a.m. December 4 AEDT).

The Scourge Invasions coming to WoW Classic next week have been adjusted in some ways that differ from how they were originally configured to operate in 2006. Here’s a look into the details behind that.

Original WoW

On June 20, 2006, Scourge Invasions began, including bonus dungeon bosses, vendors, quests, and a series of undead invasion outdoor events. The Invasion part of the event came in three stages. Necrotic Shards spawned in each zone being attacked and are surrounded by undead enemies which must be defeated to destroy the Shard. They most notably drop Necrotic Runes, which were used as quest objectives and as currency to purchase Consecrated Sharpening Stones and Blessed Weapon Oils.

The stages progressed per-realm. The ...

That’s what we were aiming for.

With a hotfix that went live a few minutes ago, we’ve added more of a bulletproof cleanup for players who were stuck after switching Covenants.

At this time, if you’re in that state, simply return to Oribos and your character should get fixed up.

We’re working on a hotfix that will end the separation between War Mode and non-War Mode players in Oribos.

After realm restarts, whenever they next occur, you should no longer need to change your War Mode status to see other players who are in the opposite mode in Oribos.

With a hotfix to the game earlier, we fixed an issue where players who swapped Covenants could not display the first chapter of their new campaign as complete after completing the quests.

We applied another hotfix this evening for players who changed Covenants and chose to skip the tutorial quests that ordinarily would have awarded 5 Souls. A few players were likely in a state where there was not a way to gain any Souls until next week, and those players should now be able to log out, log back in, and visit your Sanctum to receive 5 Souls and proceed.

Since shortly after the launch of Shadowlands, we’ve experienced some service issues that are negatively impacting gameplay on a small number of realms. In this region, we’ve been monitoring and working around the clock to solve these issues for:

  • Area 52
  • Frostmourne
  • Illidan
  • Stormrage
  • Tichondrius

We increased realm capacity to let more players than ever before into a single realm, but extreme demand on a few realms has exceeded even that capacity, so we have dialed down some of our earlier changes. We are trying to carefully balance service stability and accessibility, and exploring multiple avenues to get everyone online and playing smoothly.

This issue is our number one priority. We will continue to work to solve this as quickly as possible, and we will provide further updates as necessary.

Thank you very much for your patience.

With a hotfix to the game that was applied a little while ago, we’ve removed a setting that was restricting players’ ability to consistently see and interact with others in their group in the four Shadowlands zones and the introductory Maw.

Now, as before in Battle for Azeroth, joining a group should bring you to the party leader’s perspective. Players who are in and out of War Mode will remain separate, as always.

An exception that remains is the max-level version of the Maw. Players in the max-level Maw may not immediately be able to see one another when joining a party. However, leaving the max-level Maw (to Oribos) and returning should bring members of a party together.

Confirmed!

Yes!

In addition to soul-bearers on mortal worlds, we’re making sure that former-soul-bearers in the Shadowlands drop the pieces that the Eternal Traveler wants. And that will include former-soul-bearers in Shadowlands dungeons and (later) raids.

We’ll note the addition of the Shadowlands drops in our hotfixes update once it’s complete.

This bug has been fixed.

The issue caused the Veiled Satchel to require level 60. Please hold on to your reward until you reach level 60, and you should be able to open it.

Satchels earned after the fix was deployed should be openable.

To solve an issue with the new Shadowlands PvP vendors, we need to despawn them temporarily.

The vendors will return with the next realm restarts.

The tooltip for War Mode should only display the XP bonus if you’re not at max-level. At this moment, you’re at max level.

After the top of the hour, the XP bonus should appear.

Yes. Those players who wish for their alt characters to experience the quests as their first character did, can do so.

Threads of Fate exists for players who only wanted to experience it once (or twice or however many times they already did it), and with Threads of Fate, you can queue all four dungeons freely from the start.

We’d like to note a difference between the Shadowlands Beta and the live game that you’re going to experience later today.

On your first character to explore the Shadowlands, you will not be able to queue for a Shadowlands dungeon if you haven’t yet restored access to that dungeon’s zone via the main quest campaign for that zone.

For example, while Necrotic Wake will be available the moment you depart Oribos (when you first reach the Shadowlands), you’ll have to complete the Bastion campaign and reopen the way to Maldraxxus before you can queue for the Plaguefall dungeon. You’ll then later unlock Mists of Tirna Scithe and Halls of Atonement as you complete their associated campaigns.

On subsequent characters, all dungeons can be made immediately available to you via the Threads of Fate system.

Please note that we’re fixing a bug with the Night Fae ability Wild Spirits. It is not intended to deal area damage for each target hit by Explosive Shot. After this bugfix (very soon), it will deal area damage once per Explosive Shot cast.

Hello. I’d like to highlight some recent changes that should be testable in the Shadowlands Beta, and will be in place for the live game later today.

We’ve updated Abomination Limb to address the gameplay of having to move out of melee if there are no ranged enemies, to gain 3 Bone Shield charges, Rime, or Runic Corruption.

  • Abomination Limb now grants the buff on cast and again every 6 seconds for a total of 3 buffs (was 1).
  • Given the increase to the consistency and amount of the effect, Abomination Limb damage is reduced by 8%.

The Venthyr ability Swarming Mist has also been updated.

  • Swarming Mist deals reduced damage when damaging more than 5 targets.

Having Swarming Mist deal reduced damage beyond 5 targets should bring its power more inline with the other Death Knight Covenant abilities.

There is a meaningful change that should be highlighted here, among the other adjustments from late last week. As you know, the Necrolord ability Death Chakram had its damage increased by 10% and the Night Fae ability Wild Spirits had its damage increased by 10%. At the same time,

  • The Venthyr ability Flayed Shot had its chance to generate a free Kill Shot increased.

We saw a lot of feedback that Resonating Arrow’s ability to stack with and amplify other class cooldowns made it feel too much more attractive than the other Convenants, and this should somewhat address that.

Some tuning adjustments are in flight for Warlocks in Shadowlands. These should be hitting the Beta soon (and of course the live game that will mirror the Beta in 6 hours).

  • Scouring Tithe damage reduced by 10% (Kyrian ability).
  • Impending Catastrophe damage increased by 15% (Venthyr ability).
  • Decimating Bolt damage increased by 15% (Necrolord ability).

It cannot be said enough – thank you all for your testing and your thoughtful feedback.
