On noticing that this post mentioned surveys, I feel the need to share my experience with a recent survey I got in client. That survey did focus a lot on content as well.

The problem I had with the survey is that it would give you four options, and ask you to rate one as the most frustrating and one as the least frustrating. You did not have the option to not answer with a particular grouping if you wanted to complete the survey. I felt like this led to a distortion of answers, where I would have to identify something as most frustrating, even if none of the options frustrated me.

Appreciate the feedback. Those surveys can feel a bit weird to fill out. They are a really effective method of generating a ranked list of things like favourite champions, points of frustation, motivations to play etc. A single person's responses can be misleading, aggregating thousands together however produces a really useful result though.

Instakill - your unit is gone Mind Control - your unit is gone from your team and helping kill the rest of their team

Details matter a lot of course, so it's not really that simple, that was what the experience felt like playtesting it though

u/RiotMeddler What are your thoughts on Shyvana? She was a prospect on the VGU table and has such great potential with her amazing lore and theme, but it is blatantly obvious that her current kit does not satisfy her fantasy. She has been stuck for a significant time in a state that has divided her playerbase between two styles and I am afraid that Riot will solidify her into the new playstyle that only exists because her original bruiser/Juggernaut playstyle is worthless currently. Is she being looked into or will she be another Taliyah, Karma, Sona, Quinn, Skarner etc?

I think Shyvana does need a VGU. Only question for me is how to prioritize her versus other highly in need champs like Udyr for example. I wouldn't consider a VGU that didn't strongly support a fighter playstyle as appropriate given her history and fantasy.

When was the last time lvl 7 was introduced? I feel like we could have atleast lvl 8 by now, working on it could be a good alternative for the ppl that dont enjoy eternals (im in that club, i like champ masteries but dont like eternals and wish for more content for the first one).

Agreed. Can't make any promises on timeline, but at some point I'd like to expand Champ Mastery a bit more as a system.

No, we think of Quest Skins as a separate thing, given they're paid content and bound to a particular champion. I'd like to do some overall work on our progression systems in general (rank, level, champ mastery, honour etc).

/u/RiotMeddler with grevious wounds being made a lot stronger and easier to get, how are you planning to work with dedicated healers like soraka.

Soraka already creates problems with how strong exe calling rush is vs her (if people don't buy it she is overpowered, if they do she is useless).

I assume letting soraka just hit 40% win rate from grevious wounds being everywhere isn't an option, so won't massive buffs to grevious wounds just make that even more of a problem case without larger mechanic changes like grevious wounds only applying to self healing again.

Soraka falls into the category of champ we'll react to once we see exactly how she's affected. That might mean tuning GW availability if issues with her balance also affect other healing heavy champs. Could also just mean putting power into her, whether in healing or other aspects, to recognize the new normal. Also possible she's not that dramatically affected, we'll have to see (I think this outcome's less likely, but there are a lot of other things changing for her besides just GW).

/u/RiotMeddler are you able to share how successful Eternals were in terms of the guidelines you laid out in the post

Fairly successful. Eternals have hit the mark for a subset of players. Most players aren't interested in them, and that's fine, there's a group who are who feel good about them and have clear interest in more.

I do think they suffer somewhat from players who aren't interested in them wanting something somewhat similar (more progression avenues for example). That to me is more an issue with our baseline progression/identity offerings than Eternals themselves though.

That's still planned. I was thinking about the jungle itself admittedly. It shouldn't have too disruptive an effect (no relearning the whole jungle) even if it shakes up builds somewhat.

What do you hope to accomplish with that change?

Better player understanding. Shields are extremely apparent and well communicated versus most other defensive effects.

Happy Friday boss. Hope you're doing well today!

Pretty excited to see changes going through an elongated testing phase and I am finally glad to see changes to the game that are disruptive. Cadence of change is a hot topic with different opinions but I feel it has been slow. Regardless, I have a couple questions.

1) What is the stance of the team when it comes to the "power creep" argument? Does the item overhaul effectively add more damage to the system?

2) How influential was Wild Rift when it comes to the functional design of items this pre-season? I hope WR will not have an effect on design philosophy for the PC version in the long-term.

Thank you :D

  1. We want to avoid power creep. If the overhaul adds or removes power overall we'll adjust to to compensate. In particular we don't want to change the current relationship between levels of power from kits versus items versus pregame.

  2. Preseason item design is based off what we think is right for LoL PC players. Where possible we're looking to also have consistency with WR, make it easier to recognize the same effects in both games, unify technology etc. That's a secondary goal though, not a primary one.

Some adjustments, nothing too massive. Stuff like changing Scuttle's defenses to a shield that falls off on CC instead of bonus defenses.

Mythics are not class bound. While that can mean things like Marksmen picking up a tank or fighter focused Mythic they're giving up substantial damage by doing so given that blocks them from getting any other Mythic

Yep. We filmed a little while ago, when it comes out is up to them though :)

Quest skins don't have any links to eternals nor are they about being stat trackers, that at least I can clarify today.

Hey hope you're holding up well.

I really like posts that detail the methodology that leads to certain decision making. That been said, is the LoL team still adhering to the design philosophy (counter-play, mastery, meaningful choices, team-play, clarity, and evolution) set by Morello in 2014 when it comes to the holistic point of view of potential changes to the game?

Also are you guys contempt with the amount of snowball in the game? It feels like the line between early, mid, and late game scaling is getting increasingly blurred due to the forced fast paced nature of the game. Can't Wildrift fill that void for a player-base that is looking for a quick SR game?

Cheers.

Those design pillars are still pretty accurate yeah, though if we were publishing them again nowadays we'd likely call out a few more things like game to game variance and gameplay/thematic cohesion.

We think the amount of snowball in game is in a fairly good post at present, though understand that there are a range of opinions on that. While Wild Rift will have shorter games than LoL PC we're certainly not trying to push people to play a particular game based purely on how long a session they want. Difference in platform alone is a massive deciding point for many players for example. Some really want to play on mobile, some never want to do so. Some people will split their time between the two, some don't even own a computer etc.

We don't see champion power as an appropriate lever to use to try and influence champion popularity (depth, breadth). Some champions, Illaoi being a good example, have deep but niche appeal. Most players aren't interested in playing them, those that do love them. Adding power will increase play rate but not because the champion concept resonates with people more but because people just like winning. We'd rather try and have everything as balanced as we can manage so that people can play what appeals to them. Buffs/nerfs work off our balance framework as a result instead.

Maybe they are similar to Odyssey Ziggs which was obtainable by completing Odyssey quests during the event.

We'll talk more about how quest skins function in the moderate future, not quite ready to yet, though we do need to start testing the tech. Can share that it's not about how you acquire the skin though.

I asked a rioter in a TFT thread back in the first TFT version if Zac was gonna be added to TFT and he said he would like Zac to be added but 3 Sets later and we are still here with no Zac :(

I'm confident we'll eventually get every LoL champ into a TFT set. Some will take longer than others though if they don't line up smoothly with the set themes we're going for and/or what the traits within those themes need. Zac's going to be tougher than many to work in, though I'm confident we'll get to him at some point. Apologies for lack of any specifics there.
