Hello glorious community,

We’d like your feedback on the Alpha Two Basic Range Weapon Attack Update and Ranger Demo discussed during the September 2022 Development Update Livestream.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0257a-goFwE

To help guide this conversation, here are a few thought starters:

What aspects of the basic range weapon attacks are important to you?

When it comes to Ranger archetype fantasy, what are you wanting to see and not wanting to see?

Are there types of basic range weapon attacks in other games that you feel are done well? If so, in what ways?

Is there anything in particular you’re excited or concerned about regarding what was shown with the basic range weapon attacks and the Ranger archetype?
Please don’t feel limit... Read more

Dev Discussion - Gathering and PvP
Artisan gatherers will be prime targets for combatant players. With that said, what tools or activities would gatherers like to see to help protect their hard-earned materials while adventuring in Verra?

Hello glorious community,

Let’s start up another discussion on the Event System! If you haven’t heard of it yet, feel free to read more about the mechanics we’ve shared so far here: https://ashesofcreation.wiki/Events and from our past development update livestream covering the Event System here: https://youtu.be/qYuL-GrMmRM?t=1986

The Event System consists of a multitude of… you guessed it, events! They’re a result of developments in the world of Verra. You may see them in the form of quests, pop-up triggered events, or other narrative elements that may happen throughout the world. Events are designed to fit local, regional, and global scales!

With all that said, below are some follow-up questions from our design team for the community after reading through your glorious feedback!

Hi all!

If you're curious, The Grapoon, the Giantslayer Banded Armor, and all cosmetic items in these monthly packs will be cosmetic only and serve no functional purpose other than looking cool 😎

This piece will likely be a back-appearance slot cosmetic item! ^_^

As a reminder:
All skin cosmetic items are cosmetic items only and do not grant the user any other benefit. The lore text is flavor text, and background of the creatures and items in the world of Verra. Costume cosmetic items do not include the weapons pictured.

Verra is as deadly and wild as it is wondrous. Most cultured souls find themselves both prisoner and prey in this realm, constantly battling with hostile intruders and dangerous beasts as they seek to restore the cultures of their forebears. Although, there are some who aren’t interested in reclaiming lost civilizations, or forging new ones. There are those who roam these savage lands hunting the most deadly creatures they can find. Most regard them as foolhardy madmen, for who would be insane enough to stalk the largest and most ferocious beasts that Verra has to offer? None but the dauntless hunters of the Order of the Giantslayers!

The Order of the Giantslayers cosmetic add-ons will be available in the ... Read more

My first thought is "why?" Hunger and Thirst mechanics are staples of the 'survival' genre, which Ashes is not. If it were able to add something tangible for players then I guess maybe, but it's not really a part of MMO RPGs for a reason - it just doesn't serve a purpose. The driving force of survival games is...surviving. Having hunger and thirst in those games makes sense as it pushes the player to seek out ever-more-efficient means of procuring those items. That's not really a thing in Ashes (and personally I hope it never is). It just doesn't seem to me that it would have a place.

I'm curious as to why you would want it though. Since you're asking for it, what do you see in those mechanics that you think would benefit Ashes?

Fantastic comment and great follow-up question ^_^

Personally, I'm totally neutral on stylization vs realism with graphics. I've played tons of stylized games that are beautiful, ex. World of Warcraft or Sea of Thieves.

I've also played some incredible games with realistic graphics, like Skyrim, RDR2, Cyberpunk 2077.

Content is king in most regards, but really, realism vs stylization comes down to personal preference. Game developers unfortunately can't please everyone, as those who prefer one over the other may end up disappointed.

@Taleof2Cities has a great comment here suggesting watching more recent gameplay footage. I suggest starting with the Riverlands Seasonal Tech demo here: https://youtu.be/dhvQEPuexjg

Reading the recent threads regarding the Lawless Open Sea, i saw a sentiment from people more PvE oriented, it seems like they believe that the open seas are a area with PvX more tilted towards PvP High Risk vs High Reward and it made think of the possibility of a Area with PvX more tilted towards PvE High Risk vs High Reward.

In this thread, i would like people to discuss and give their opinions and ideas towards the concept of "PvX more tilted towards PvE High Risk vs High Reward".

Let me provide an idea:

Lorewise we know the Underrealm is the place the people who weren't able to leave from Verra fled to escape from corruption, how about making the Underrealm a Area with PvX more tilted towards PvE High Risk vs High Reward.

How so? How about making it an area where you gain more corruption when killing players, killing monsters and death reduces less corruption, monsters there are stronger th...

There are some other government positions. Yes.
https://ashesofcreation.wiki/Node_governments
Priests, Bishops, Acolytes...
Chief Bounty Hunter...
Patron Guild leaders...
Possibly Social Org leaders...

Exactly this!

As Steven has said, "There are a lot of things that you can strive for within [a node] that grant you that special treatment."

We understand that having robust accessibility options and settings is important to many of our players. We want as many people as possible to be able to enjoy Ashes of Creation! :)

I've taken note that being able to increase font and cursor size is important. If there are any additional accessibility-related settings you feel would be important for your experience, feel free to drop another comment here!
