A shard is a collection of game servers and platform resources that serves a given VALORANT player population. So, for example, the Asia Pacific shard consists of a set of platform resources (services and databases) hosted in Singapore, and then game servers in Singapore, Mumbai, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Sydney. All players in the AP shard's countries (basically everything east and south of India, China and Russia) will play on the best game servers, based on their latency and who they're grouped with. Players can only player against other players in the same shard.

The other shards are America (split into North America, LATAM, Brazil zones), Europe and Korea.

No, and I doubt we ever will. We don't want to add too many servers, as it splits the matchmaking population up too much.

Mumbai be online with the start of Act 3 in Asia Pacific. India will stay in the Asia Pacific shard.

Yeah, just because it's closer physically won't always mean you get a better ping there. I would assume that a lot of internet in South Africa routes up the West coast of Africa: https://www.submarinecablemap.com/

I hope we put game servers in South Africa one day, we know there are players there, but we have no plans to right now.

We're going to do some tests to see which server is best for Pakistan between Bahrain and Mumbai. If it's Bahrain, no worries, Pakistanis still just start getting lower ping. If it's Mumbai we'll have to figure out next steps.

Do you think that adding low grade cheaters and match fixers from other games like CSGO will have an issue on the pro scene of valorant?

Like all the B tier cheaters and match fixers of CSGO are playing in Valorant which is making Valorant seem like this shit version of CSGO.

I would love to see Valorant have it's own original players rather than B grade players who failed in CSGO or got banned for cheating/match fixing

Purely my opinion: VALORANT has only been live for 12 weeks, so the esports scene is very early and will evolve over time. It's only natural that the first esports pros in VALORANT aren't players who were heavily incentivized in other scenes like CS:GO... If I were being paid 1.65 million dollars, I wouldn't be jumping ship to other games.

Over time, as the scene establishes itself, we (Riot Games and the VALORANT team) continue to invest in the game, and the amount of sponsorship etc grows, we'll also see more pros who are seen as primarily "home-grown" VALO...

I don't have any info to share on League of Legends. For VALORANT, if you're already playing from the Middle East, there will be no transfer involved when Bahrain comes online.

So let me give you some context, because I see a lot of "Spaghetti Code!" and "GrEeDy RitO" and "hOw CoUlD TheY Do ThIS?!" comments in this thread. Here's the boring truth: we de-prioritized full region transfers for launch, because there a ton of features needed to launch a game and the vast majority of players will never need to transfer region. As u/ArmiesofZNight said, we're working on transfers now, and that's in part because we always knew we'd need them eventually.

Until "full" (i.e. all your stuff comes with you) transfers are a thing, Player Support only have the ability to move your account and a couple of key pieces, e.g. your VP. If you have Beta rewards etc I would recommend waiting.

Is this hard technically? No, but there is some work to make sure that all the right entries in...

Yeah, we're going to have proper region transfers (similar to League) by the end of the year, hopefully much sooner.
