Are you playing w/ a controller or M+KB? There have been some lingering reports from M+KB players who feel there's some input latency going on. The team is continuing to investigate and haven't found any glaring issues but we do know that enabling uncapped frame rate can potentially have an impact on input and many players found that disabling external programs running the background helped. If you continue to experience this issue, please visit support.halowaypoint.com and file a ticket - it helps the team as they investigate causes and is helpful in determining the overall scope/volume of players having this problem.

"'Tis the Season to bundle up in ugly sweaters, gather around a fire, and keep warm while playing Halo. To claim your very own Ugly Sweater nameplate, complete matches on wintry wonderlands between now and January 5, 2020. Meeting one of the following requirements will earn you the nameplate in the New Year!

Complete (without quitting) 10 matchmaking (PvP and/or Firefight) matches on snowy maps.

  • Sword Base (Halo: Reach)
  • Solitary (Halo: Reach)
  • Glacier (Halo: Reach)

Or, beat the par score on any two snowy campaign missions.

  • ONI Sword Base (Halo: Reach)
  • The Package (Halo: Reach)

We can’t wait to see Spartans all warm and cozy. As always, we will see you online.

Before you go, please note that action is being taken on players who are creating a negative experience for others, attempting to exploit the progression system, or g...

Just a note that this message was specific to PC - which currently only has Halo: Reach. MCC players on Xbox One can also earn the nameplate via the same criteria on snowy MP and Campaign maps from other Halo titles in the collection.

It's a manual grant that someone on the team has to do. I think there's a chance they will do one or two grants over the holiday break (I'm hearing maybe a first grant tomorrow, maybe another next Friday, etc.) but offiically, at a minimum, players can expect to get the nameplate post Jan. 1 when folks are back at work from the break.

It is, maybe they updated it since you looked at it

It's included but was inadvertantly left out of the initial messaging.

If you have MCC on Xbox then you have more games than just Reach which means there are more options included (for both Campaign and MP maps). This Message was specifically for PC, which currently only has Reach.

In general, behavior that is intended to bypass game systems, rules, and/or creates a negative experience for other unwilling players is not behavior we condone in the game. Collaborating to trade kills is much harder to track and isn't something we're pursuing as aggressively as the rampant AFK XP farming epidemic we've seen. Often times it's a mutually agreed upon thing with no real 'victims.' In many cases, the bannable part of 'sword-lining' comes when someone declines to opt-in and then is barraged with threats, insults and offensive language (voice and/or text) and/or repeatedly betrayed and griefed, which then violates the code of conduct.

Comment

We have automatic tools that are detecting this behavior. Regardless of whether it's the in-game theater or GameDVR it's just not super practical for people to dig through and watch hundreds/thousands of clips for video evidence. The team is on this though and hopefully with the latest round of bans and the looming threat of more serious enforcement actions - along with DoubleXP for legit players - we'll see this issue die down.

I agree, but banning the people who haven't done anything wrong isn't the right way to go either.

People who get banned always say that. Thus far every single person who has reached out to question a ban has in fact been shown to have deserved it. The criteria was actually pretty forgiving just to be extra careful false-positives weren't an issue.

Is it worse than OG Reach? OG Reach was notoriously bad and 343 mentioned that there wasn’t much they were going to do about it.

It's a pretty hard problem to solve given the underlying campaign networking architecture is very old. Re-doing all of that is a signficant undertaking (much more complex that the work that was done for MP, dedicated server support for Firefight, etc.). Not sure there's _nothing_ the team can do, they've heard the feedback and would like to find opportunities to improve, but real talk there's no magic solution and anything would be a massive reworking of the entire netcode for a 9 year old game.

I think so, yeah. I never even knew it existed until someone shared a video a few days ago.

Same here and this is legacy code from 2010. It became much more egregious and noticeable on M+KB I think. Our internal pro team brought this to light a few weeks back and the community at large seems to have just picked up on this earlier this week - just in time for this patch to address it. :)

hopefully this is actually fixed

Definitley a strange mechanic that was present in the OG Reach and something our internal Pro Team really honed in on during pre-release testing. Initial reports are positive, but we'd love to hear feedback from M+KB users on how this change feels.

Status is that it's in progress. It's unfortunately a complex issue that is, thankfully, on track to being resolved, but takes time. We know it's one of the biggest areas of frustration for players and the team is tackling as quickly as possible. We'll try and dig into more of the technical details and background after the break.

We don't truly have the capacity to investigate and act on every single report like this. HOWEVER - we know this is an issue, we are datamining and tracking this activity, and we know who these players are. The team is waiting on some services work/updates to occur behind the scenes (as quickly as possible) and then we will start addressing these players w/ bans/XP removal/unlock removal, etc.. (yes, the egregious offenders will likely lose the XP and unlocks they've acquired by cheating the system in addition to getting banned)

Comment

Not currently, no. We know there's some demand for splitscreen support on PC but it's currently out of scope. The team would like to look into this more down the road but it's unknown if it will be possible (5 more PC games to ship next year plus a growing list of fixes and improvements to be made for Reach).

Indeed. Just doing a little work with the services team to setup some tools and then it's banhammer time. These folks are likely losing the XP and unlocks they earned in addition to getting banned.

The alure of custom armor is seeing those armor in the cutscenes, but having a custom armor take like 100-200 hours of PvP to even get to like 60 levels deep is a little absurd. I got Reach to play with my girlfriend, someone who's a halo fan but never had the chance to play it originally on the 360, but as someone who doesn't play PvP games as a rule, she's pretty set against it now.

It's especially baffling because this is a free battlepass that doesn't expire when the season ends, and isn't offering any new content that wasn't in the original game, so I just don't see what the profit motive of restricting access. I could understand making later Seasons have gear that are exclusive to online activities since it takes much more resources to make new assets from scratch as opposed to improving the textures of the original models, but having the original Reach armor selection be something tha...

That's good feedback and I know is something the team is aware of / thinking through. I don't have visibility into what, if anything, they may do to help solve for this but will see what I can dig up and will share some info when I get it.

A challenge system is planned for a post-launch update. Not exactly sure on the timing/current status but it was meant to be part of the progression system and needed a bit more development time.

Comment

Yes, the other games' content will just be grayed out and you won't be able to access those modes if you don't have those titles installed.

Wait is that me in this screenshot?

One thing that isn't implemented yet is challenges - once those come online it should offer another avenue to earn XP / speed things up a bit. Overall I'm told that the total grind time is less than the OG version of Reach (but remember Luke Smith acknowledged he may have messed up a decimal point back then and inadvertently made it too grindy). As for campaign/offline - I believe it's unfortunately a necessity to limit progression to matchmade / online authenticated matches only, otherwise it'd be pointless and folks would just hack and manipulate it. (arguably not that it _really_ matters, it's not like it's a 'premium battlepass') Lastly, one of their main goals for this new system was building something that could span all the titles in the MCC with one unified solution. Not totally sure how it will materialize but when CE launches the same overall system will be used for that season, and so on.

I'm sure the team is continu...
