In October 1938, 82 years ago, the Dewoitine D.520 made its first flight. Designed just before the outbreak of WW2, the D.520 first engaged the Luftwaffe in 1940. Pierre Le Gloan, France's only ace in a day, shot down 5 aircraft with the D.520 - 4 CR.42's and 1 BR.20 in 1940.

73 years ago, the F-86 Sabre first appeared. This aircraft featured a swept-wing design, the first for a U.S. jet, designed to combat the Soviet MiG-15, which it later fought over the skies of Korea with a similar combat, and flying characteristic making them very similar.

Exactly 75 years ago, the Jagdtiger saw service in small numbers from late 1944 to the end of the war. The 71-tonne tank was the heaviest armored fighting vehicle of any type to achieve series production. Today, only 3 Jagdtigers survive in museums.

76 years ago, the Italian Social Republic received the Bf 109 G-14/AS. The G-14/AS was a high-altitude fighter variant of the Bf 109 powered by a DB 605ASM engine. The aircraft were given by Germany to keep Italian forces in combat against the Allies in Italy.
