Our first patch introduced a Steam Deck crash. We then released 2 patches to mitigate the issue so it only happens in rare circumstances. We have another patch planned early next week that will fix the root cause.

I tried the command, but the first teleport before the dungeon still crashed my deck :( Hopefully you're able to patch it soon, I'll keep checking for updates! Thanks :)

That sounds like a totally unrelated issue to what the problem is with performance. I would submit a bug in our discord.

Now, after calming down and seeing the focus of the developers to make it run on the steam deck updating with fixes…I just purchased it again believing that they will make the steam deck experience worth. Please don’t make me regret 😅
Thanks for the confidence. Please note this patch will reduce those crashes but they can still happen in rare cases. We have a permanent solve for them coming next week. Thanks for your patience.

Originally posted by A.Crowley: thanks for that fix! yesterday highlands was hard crashing my steamdeck and now it's playable. cheers, devs!

I do have a request - can we skip the warning on the load screen? maybe after the first time playing, because it's a waste of 10 seconds every time we start up the game
It's compiling shaders in the background.

We won't be part of the summer sale since we just launched and can only do a single discount for a period of time :( we hope to be in future sales though but in the meantime, i say check us out for only $25 and if you hate it, refund it! Thanks for the support.

Looking forward to that permanent fix. Was really pumped to play this while working from home, as the ability to pause makes this ideal for my job.
another optimization patch to reduce these just went out.

We believe we have found one of the root causes of this. We're working on 2 fixes. One is another that will reduce this further, while the second will eliminate it.

In the meantime, you can add the following to your Launch Commands in Steam to help reduce it even more.

-ExecCmds="r.MaxCharacterRenderSize=0"

How does that match up with the screenshot they provided?

Specifically, that 10AM pdt and 12am pst do not match? Though I suppose the real question is where they got that screenshot.

Alternatively they might just release it on steam a day or so earlier for preloads then they can control the time it “starts” aka they are enabling the servers independently of all the other platforms.

The graphics look poorly at the lowest so that’s weird that it’s so unstable. I think the dungeons got a bit better too, recently I had lags even there but tested it quickly now and worked better.

Yes, you will not be hitting 50+ in the Highlands on the Deck. It'll be closer to 30.

Did you restart your game after language selection?

Patch Out now

  • Performance optimizations when in Highlands

  • Fixed crash related to the pause menu when on the Steam Deck.

PLEASE NOTE:

We’ll continue to make Steam Deck optimizations and investigate rare crashes that players still might see. While this fix should dramatically reduce them, in some edge cases the Deck could run out of memory and crash.

You can read more about the other changes here: https://steamcommunity.com/games/1171690/announcements/detail/4185613970206088543

EDIT 6/21/2024

We believe we have found one of the root cause...
