No worries. FYI some of the wiki info isn't 100% up to date but it's mostly still accurate.
Especially since the Fandom wiki has been abandoned for over a year.

Sounds like you've been using Vortex to install mods for 7 Days.

To fix it you will basically need to permamently delete the game client folder, probably the 7DaysToDie folder in your %appdata%, and definitely stop using Vortex for 7 Days. The hardlinks it creates can break client functionality, which causes the issue you are experiencing.

That's not toggle. That stops you from sprinting when letting go of a movement key. We're looking for an option to disable TOGGLE sprint entirely.
That option disables the "Sprint Lock" feature. Which is the toggle that locks you into sprint. Which sounds exactly like what the subject of your thread is a... Read more

From what you wrote, it sounds like Ubuntu might be the best choice since you can confirm that it actually works. Do you think this is the way I should go?

I don't know if you can answer this or not, but do you know if I can run Cities Skylines 1 & Stranded Deep, as well?

Thanks for your help!

ps Any suggestions for setting up Linux?

yes. It is native to Linux.

My personal preferences are Ubuntu or Debian. I advise to stay away from some offshoots like Arch because they have compatibility problems. Mint I haven't used in a while because development was falling a bit behind and they had dependency issues, but it might be alright now. I haven't tested that one in a while.

Also, a side note, Wayland does not play very well with the client either. It doesn't play very well with much to be honest, but I see it more and more as an option for the desktop interface. It's supposed to be more secure, ect. However it doesn't work out very well for a lot of games, and is still not considered to be stable.

Something else to note is that in general you will have a 10-15% improvement in performance over like hardware running Windows 10/11. Though there are currently some growing pains with OpenGL and Vulkan.

Back around Alpha 13/14 days the devs had actually considered where POI's would be updated over time. Either by slowly degrading as they are not visited by survivors, or randomly being repaired and upgraded by survivors.

In the end the idea was scrapped because it required way too much overhead from the client.

For 2-3 players that is probably "OK" if you keep the CPU cool. It is below min spec, but should boost the CPU to something more in-spec when it demands it.

If yall move too fast on vehicles in separate directions, you're probably going to experience some lag in area loading.

They’re bandits. They are by definition robbers. I don’t think they’d be called bandits if they weren’t going to come after your stuff. But then again, it sounds like there won’t be any storms brewing in Storm’s Brewing, so part of me doesn’t know what to think anymore. I do know that bandits aren’t on the roadmap for 2.0, so we have a long ways still before they come to pass.

I agree it would make things interesting, and immersive. You know how Rick Grimes just leaves piles of food and weapons in the middle of the street, to come back to whenever? That’s right, he doesn’t. It’s easy enough to imagine the implementation of an economic heat map, where the game detects a buildup of valuables in the containers in an area and spawns a bandit scout to check out that buildup. I would also use a similar system to make herbivorous animals come after your crops. It’d add another layer of gameplay, even if bandit AI is little more than ‘zombies with guns.’

personally I always preferred the isolation and don't really like the traders
Most mods are just un-commenting the bandit code that already exists in the client. It's been there since Alpha 14.

So far, Bandits are expected to have their own POI's. Which will basically be like the current POI's with sleeper zombies, except it will have active bandits.

The AI probably won't be that much different except that they will be trying to shoot you instead of slapping you. Probably a couple will be melee types as well. TFP has stated that they want the bandits to have the ability to ... Read more

There are just too many versions of it and I feel lost in the sauce. Where can I find the most up to date road map? I tried Steam Discussions, google, and IGN/Gamespot with no luck. I guess another issue I am having is one that is in more detailed than the more common picture of it.

It sounds like you want to just run down the ladder without having to turn around. Am I right in understanding that you would like to just run forward and look down and keep running and stay glued to the ladder?

That isn't really how ladders work. Sounds like you want to build stairs.

I'm not taking anything personally. I'm not the one whose blood is boiling and typing all in caps.

Ladders would not have made my Top 5 on Family Feud.

Seriously, can we get the old animated emojis back on Steam? Who do I have to e-mail?

Ok, so there are no tips for the noob then? You just have to spin around and wait for the game to register it? At night I use a controller, ironically due of a ladder injury.

I guess I agree with you about the UI needing improvement and how new players don't understand how best to spend their points. I took exception to the thing you said that I disagree with the most.

As for your desire to save scum that's going to have to be something you learn to live with. This type of game just isn't going to allow you to save your game every time you attempt to mount a ladder and then go back and reload when you die. Same goes for the bloodmoon horde. You just have to wait another 7 d... Read more

I do think they work well. Anything can be improved and ladder use could probably be improved although mostly just in aesthetics by adding proper 3rd person animations for when you see other things climbing the ladders.

But using them daily for gameplay purposes myself? I think they work very well. I wouldn't want anyone to stop working on new content to overhaul ladders.

Ladders are learn by doing rather than learn by watching. Once you stop being a spectator and actually play for yourself you will find that the ladders work just fine. With all the alleged tens of thousands of product returns due to ladders it is interesting that yours is one of the only threads I've ever read at this level of boiling blood. You'd think there would be more to read on this subject unless....maybe just watching others play isn't giving you the full experience you can have with using ladders.

Also, broken leg remedies are not locked behind skill trees. You can craft a splint before you spend a single skill point and you are not required to climb out onto a ladder to check the horde. There are other ways to design a base.

Hopefully you will come to see this as you actually put some play time in rather than just watching others.

Thanks for the feedback. Just a note on number 7, as you get more experienced with the game and your gamestage goes up you'll find that there are random wandering hordes and that your gunshots can attract screamers who will spawn in loads of zombies.

Wandering hordes are designed to pass nearby up to 30 blocks away rather than head straight at you. When your gamestage and level are low there may only be 3-5 zombies in the group and you may not see them or they see you. But later there will be larger groups of zombies and you'll be more likely to notice them passing by. If you turn feral sense on in the settings they will be more likely to sense you and come to get you whenever they pass by.
