Hi! Sorry for the delay, but here's what I got from my colleagues:

"This is most likely caused by the lighting: when a light source is moving relative to a sub, it needs to constantly recalculate the shadows cast by the things the light hits. Because of that, subs/shuttles with lots of external light sources can cause a large performance hit"

Do you think that would explain what you're experiencing?

Hi! Thank you so much, reading this made us very happy. When our publisher suggested a bonus magazine like this, we weren't really sure we knew what we were doing, and the end result was a nice surprise to everyone involved! That's to say, the magazine is made by the same people who make the game: our lead developer, two designers, lead artist and myself handle the bulk of the writing, and the Barotrauma art team is responsible for the visuals, from the illustrations and ads to the layout and graphic design (which we here have been particularly impressed with, too – I don't think we even knew we had a graphic designer in our midst before this!)

The compliments have been relayed to the team :) When we hopefully get around to making the planned third volume, one day, we hope you'll enjoy that one as much as the existing two!

Hi! Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We've heard a few mentions of similar things in the past, but what you're describing sounds like it could be quite serious, so I wanted to let you know we are investigating it. If you have any more details, please don't hesitate to send those over! You can use either public channels, like these forums and our issue tracker[github.com], or if you believe you have some sensitive information on your hands, then it may be good to send that by email, [email protected].

The game does try to draw wires that have been made completely transparent: if you want to prevent them from being rendered, you can enable the "hidden in-game" setting.

However, I'm afraid that probably won't help you solve your problem. None of the things mentioned here use much memory, and memory usage isn't really related to latency in multiplayer. The problem here is probably the framerate (= the game running slowly), not latency. The latter is not affected by rendering in any way, because the server doesn't render anything and the networking logic runs separately from the rendering logic. And in general, rendering is usually not the bottleneck, it's all the logic that's needed to update things such as the signal components and lights.

Here's a couple of suggestions on improving the performance of the sub:
- You can use the console command "showperf" to get a rough idea on what's causing the performance problems. If the "draw total" value is much larger... Read more

Hi everyone! To clarify, the topic will not be deleted due to us taking offense – you are entirely within your rights to say this. However, according to the numbers we can see, Barotrauma shows no signs of dying, and if you look around these forums for earlier threads on this topic, you may see that they quickly turned less than pretty. For that reason, you are right that we tend not to be too enthusiastic about seeing this brought up here.

So, I wanted to write back as soon as I noticed this topic to encourage everyone to participate and help make this a polite, respectful discussion that stays on topic. Discussions like that are always welcome on our forums, whether we agree with some views that are expressed or not.

Wish you all a good day or night!

Hi everyone, and thanks Pike for sharing the link – we do indeed use that Discord a lot to help players stay up to speed with what we're working on.

Regarding the alien ruins specifically, it's likely but not quite set in stone yet that we'll make an update focused on ruins content later this year. It is, however, not the first order of business, and instead the next major update will have to do with the Abyss and some other improvements to the game world. Hope you'll like it!

Its some of the mods you are using which hasn't yet updated to add the new stacking restrictions, on vanilla (non modded) game weapons only have 1 slot which takes in different amount of bullets depending of the weapon.

Thanks! Yes, I think many EK mods have been updated just recently, so I'd encourage you to try again. If the problem persists, please write here again and we'll take a closer look!

Hi! Sorry for the trouble. We tried and were not able to make this issue happen on our end, so we would need some more information to understand the problem. Are you using a custom submarine? If you are, could you send us a link to it on the Workshop, or the sub file itself?

We took extra steps to make sure that this doesn't happen, if you launch a older save where the toolbelt used to be 12 slots it will now spawn in a bodybag next to your character with the excess items from your toolbelt in it.

Only issue I have so far noticed about older saves is that some items doesn't have their stack restrictions, for example you are able to stack 8 oxygen tanks in to a diving mask, this shouldn't happen but seems to happen in older saves.

Another significant group to be sure! But the overwhelming majority of our players are actually from the US, according to Steam data. That may differ wildly from what you see on public servers though, because a lot of people seem to play on closed servers with friends or with established player groups. Our Discord lists some of these player-owned Discords too, if anyone is interested :)

Hi! I may be stating the obvious, but if you'd like to find a group to try it out with soon, you can always join our official Discord, discord.gg/undertow to find other people who are currently active. As we release in the European afternoon, with the majority of our players in the Americas, it will most likely take some time for the bulk of the servers to update to the new version.

Hope you get to play soon and like what you see!

Hi! I've seen a few of these "corrections" posted recently as well, and I think they've largely been posted by people who are active in editing the wiki and to whom it is thus an important detail ;)

To elaborate a little on what Blue said, the wiki is and always has been a player-driven effort first and foremost, and as such, when we were approached by our active wiki editors with a request to start and host a new wiki on our own domain, we were happy to oblige. Currently, we're still in the process of improving the new wiki and placing a redirect on the old one, and I believe it's this sense of "in progress" that also drives our wiki editors to redirect individual people. It's naturally not wrong to consult the old wiki on Gamepedia, and I am sure no one really means that by their redirects either! I've yet to post about the new wiki here in a more official capacity, because the official redirect is not yet up on the old wiki and there's generally still some work to be ... Read more

Hi everyone!

You may have seen that there are recently two Barotrauma wikis. The new one, hosted on our own barotraumagame.com domain came to be in the last weeks of last year – it's owned by the dev team but still largely maintained by our players. We will be focusing our editing efforts on the wiki on our own website from here on out, so eventually, the older Gamepedia wiki may become outdated.

Want to take a look, or even lend a hand? Find the Barotrauma wiki here! https://barotraumagame.com/wiki

Hi! As a general rule, we try to maintain backwards compatibility as much as possible and have only seriously broken old saves with one update throughout our early access period (the complete campaign overhaul we did last summer), as far as I recall. So the assumption is always that your existing saves should largely work just fine even as the game updates...however, with custom subs or mods, something breaking is much more likely, and as Knee wrote, when we make significant changes to something pretty basic that affects the whole game, such as the inventory, there's always a chance that there will be some adverse effects too.

We appreciate reports if anything goes unexpectedly wrong following an update so that we can better anticipate those adverse effects in the future and inform players – developing an early access title with a steady player base, we don't to cause undue annoyance to anyone with updates! With the update this week in particular, I don't believe you sho... Read more

Hi! You'll be happy to hear this is planned; the details are still a little hazy as to how or when exactly, but the feature has been requested over and over again, so we will certainly be adding it when we can. Here's the corresponding card on our Trello roadmap: https://trello.com/c/8zAKuIj0/344-personal-wallets

Hi everyone! This thread feels quite heated, so we're going to lock it to avoid any unnecessary unpleasantness on the forums. While everyone is free to express an opinion, please always be kind to others even if you disagree with them! Similarly, a post that is politely written is much nicer to read, for us and other players alike :)

As for the question itself, instead of rolling back any previous changes, we're continuing to work on streamlining inventory management with item stacking. We're going to write more about that on our blog in just a couple of days, but it will sadly be only in English, most likely. Here's a sneak peek about item stacking:

A lot of those items you typically have several of, such as ammo, oxygen or welding fuel tanks, or meds, can soon be stacked into a single inventory slot to save inventory space. This affects character inventories, containers like cabinets and toolboxes, weapon containers...basically anywhere there's an inven... Read more

Hi! You shouldn't need to make tweaks in the console because of this, at least not for much longer – we've made changes for the next update that should help with spineling-related lag spikes specifically. If you're still encountering the issue after the update (early February), please write back to let us know!

P.S. If you're anxious to get the fix now, you can play a test version of the next update already. More information ... Read more
