Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-CK3
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK3 AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3 folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add CK3.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam CK3 or Documents CK3 locations, before installing again.

If those don't help:

I promise you, signing up for the crown did not cause this to you. If it did we'd have thousands of such reports.

What did, I simply cannot see.

Do you have access to any other computer you can do a test install on? That will tell if it is confined to this one machine, or perhaps and account or MS back-end problem.

Steam installs updates (of games and of Steam itself) automatically, unless you've opted into a beta version.

What game version do you see now? 1.9.2 is current. Not that any game version is known to have this issue.

What if you disable the Steam Overlay before running the game?

I think that will be necessary, yes! I don't know that language, is there a Location tab there? If so that is where you change where the Windows User Documents folder is held.

The launcher will probably be running on your Intel UHD video system rather than the nVidia. That is normally okay as it is not a very demanding app, but perhaps that is a problem in this case.

Run the nVidia Control Panel app, manage 3D settings, and force C:/users//AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2.2023.8.1/paradox launcher.exe to run on the 'high power nVidia" option there.

Does that help?

By 'broken pointer' you mean the mouse cursor in the game does not work in some way? Is that right?

Has this always been the case, or it used to work?

I don'ty see any other known cause in those files. What if you make a new WIndows user and log in with that - does the same problem happen?

That's probably the problem then. Right click on Documents in the left column of File Explorer, just under This PC there. Go to properties, location. What does it say in there?

If it mentions OneDrive, you'll need to either make it work again,. OR configure Windows to store your Windows User Documents folder location. By default it is at C:/users/{userName}/Documents

Unless you are using the default Windows Defender one only, it's worth checking with the vendor!

Thx
Actually you don't have the same issue, as you do not get that GPU error and you get a cpatch.log whereas the OP does not. Please make your own thread in the Stellaris Tech Support forum, thanks.

Doing that will not touch the launcher, as they are separate apps installed in different places.

support ticket suggested VPN-ing to the US but that didn't work.
We don't know if you have the same cause as the OP as they never provided logs. In future please make a new thread. Thanks.

Right click on ck3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, cap refresh rate at 60.

Does that make any difference?

Please try this:

- uninstall Paradox Launcher v2 from the Windows "Apps and features" utility, if still present.

Delete the following folders if still present:

- C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Roaming/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
To see the AppData folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.

- exit the Steam app entirely
- run steam.exe as the Windows Admin user

- run the game from the PLAY button in Steam

IF that doesn't help, in this folder are some .log files:
C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
Please attach them here.
To see the AppData folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.

Note that you can run ck3.exe directly from File Explorer, which byp... Read more

I am sorry, I see no reason for these crashes in any of those files.

These crashes are only happening during a save game operation, are you saying? What antivirus app do you use? Make sure ck3.exe is in all its exceptions lists, AND that it is not doing realtime scans of Steam/SteamApps/common/CK3 AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3 folders.

Can I get all the files from ONE of those "crashes" folders please?

And, it looks like you have OneDrive active for that Documents folder, is that right? Because that can cause problems of its own.

You must have run the launcher from the desktop shortcut or Paradox launcher.exe, which is a standalone mode for users who do not want to run Steam. It does need a separate game installation if used that way, but this game is no longer supported on that platform. You'll need to run it from the PLAY button in your Steam Library instead.

What happens when you do that exactly?

Delete your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/pdx_settings.txt file. It will be remade at default settings.

All the best!

Oh, is this all in one campaign? What if you start a new test one, does it happen there too?

Any mods involved in it?

Is the crash repeatable from its saved game, or when you reload it goes past the point where it crashed before?

What fps do you see in the game?
