So this is her Xbox account but your copy of this game attached to your account, in some way? Sorry, I'm not really across how Xbox accounts work in that respect!

If you run ck3.exe directly from File Explorer, do you see any error when it crashes then?

Try this Windows repair tool

When you say new hardware, this is on a completely new machine, is that right? Or you just updated/changed some hardware in the existing machine?

Can you run ck3.exe directly from File Explorer, if so what happens exactly? Any error show?

Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-CK3
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK3 AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3 folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add CK3.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam CK3 or Documents CK3 locations, before installing again.

If those don't help:
DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file ... Read more

The bug being a failure of the game to check that space and warn you? And/or give you an option to overwrite perhaps?

If so, yes, I guess so!

That's one of several lgs in that folder, yes. It shows no issue as such.

If you make a new Windows user on this machine and log into it with that, do you get the same problem there?

Can everyone who experiences this, when NO mods are in use, please make a new thread in Bug Reports and attach the MP and other logs there, for QA to look into. Thanks!

Oh! As this thread was about 1.8.1 and you said you had the exact same problem, I naturally assumed ... ! Best to make your own fresh thread in future, thanks.

There is no way for you, or we here, to fix a game bug, which this pretty clearly is. Please make a new thread in Bug Reports and attach that save there for QA to look into next week.

Sorry for that problem!

Mogensthegreat said: I'm having the exact same issue as OP here, down to the fact that CK3 worked fine on this machine a few months ago but now does not.
First please opt out of 1.8.1 in the Steam betas tab for this game, then the current patch 1.9.0.4 will apply.

Does that help? If not, Right click on ck3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit. Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, cap refresh rate at 60.

Not so far as I know, no. If you were so inclined you could put this to Gamepass/Xbox support, as that process is entirely theirs!

Does it matter who is host? In general the slowest machine/internet connection ought to be host, so the other players have no trouble keeping up with it.

If that doesn't help, probably best to pst the MP logs in the Bug Reports forum here.

Sorry for that problem!

If it still happens then, please attach here an affected save game file, that's never had any mods used in it - I'll see if it happens here too.

What if you flag that folder as Read Only before you go back online again?

It overwrites your newer save with the older ones synced down?

If so I can't think of another way around this, I have to say! The MS/Gamepass infrastructure is particularly opaque , we have no visibility into it.

I guess if you made a new Windows user and logged in as that, the problem would just transfer over, is that right?

Only if you have previous autosaves or manual saves, I'm afraid!
