From that, I don't think the problem was your saves as such (since a reboot cannot possible un-corrupt a save or any computer file!), but some external issue.

We cannot help with modded games here I'm afraid.

First remove any mods that have not been updated to run under 1,9,2 okay.

If that doesn't help, post in the User Mods forum. Thanks.

Has this always happened or it used to work okay for you?

Any mods involved? If so try with a new campaign with ALL mods disabled please.

Certainly, yes! But I cannot give any indication when that might be, as it's an engine issue not a game problem, so affects multiple games.

Does that app have a way of capping fps? We really need to do that , with it or any other way that's available to you!

That aside, your problem may be this issue that's under investigation right now:

Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, cap refresh rate at 60.
That settings file does not show this - vsync is on and the refresh rate is not capped. PLease try those things!

Also we see this crash in nVidia:

I've seen that a couple of times - if the system.log were populated you'd see every resolution only shows 144hz, no other. Whether this is some issue or 'feasture' of recent nVidia drivers or cards I do not know.

What fps are you seeing in the game? If it's over 144hz cap it to that at least.

And, what CPU and GPU temperatures are you seeing in the game before it crashes?

The refresh rate cap is off still, can you set it to 60 please?

And delete that system.log file - does it make a new one?

I don't know then. Can you test this on any other machine you might have access to?

Right click on ck3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, cap refresh rate at 60.

If those don't help:
DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log , exceptions.log

Your checksum is modified so either you are using mods (that need updating) or have a corrupted game.

In the latter case,
Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-CK3
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK3 AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3 folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add CK3.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam CK3 or Documents CK3 locations, before installing again.

That means MS/Xbox has not installed any DLCs, for some reason.

I did get this from one affected Gamepass user:

In case anyone else had issues when they purchased the season pass from gamepass.
The season pass shows no downloads and the dlc by itself looks like you need to purchase it.
Click the dlc and click the purchase.
It’ll change and say you own this already.
Click the same box that now says you own this already and it’ll ask you to download it.
Do the download and boom it finally adds
You need to do it for both northern and RC downloads.

Please let us know if that helps you!

I see! Looking at the game in the Xbox app, it does not mention controller compatibility, so I'm not sure that's a supported feature anyway. If you have any sort of mouse cursor customisation active, such as mouse trails, try turning that off before starting the game.

I did see this product though which might help!

THEN test with a new unmodded campaign. Any better?

There was not; Patch 1.9.2.1 was released on 2023-06-21 with the checksum a370. If you are subscribed to any mods, that would have been an update to one or more of them probably.

Which does not explain your save game problem. What is actually happening with it? What patch version was it started under?

If you revert to the version from a month ago that worked for you, in the Steam Betas tab for the game, does the controller work again?

aswitz87 said: Yup, I added ck3.exe and the entire install folder and save game folder to the exceptions list.
Specifically the Ransomware - Apps Allowed Through list?

What if you make a new Windows user on this machine and log into it with that - same problem?

A pretty clear sync issue I'm afraid!

Assuming there are no mods involved, this can only be fixed by a game patch. Please make a new thread in Bug Reports and attach those files, plus the affected saved game file there, for QA to look into.

Sorry for that problem!
