FYI the only supported distro for this game is Ubuntu. And your Intel(R) UHD Graphics 630 system is well below the game's published minimum requirement in Linux, the Intel® Iris Pro™ 580

Has the game ever worked on this machine? Or never yet?

Are the Intel driver and Mesa versions completely up to date?

And what happens if you run the CK3 executable directly from a terminal command line? What output do you get there when it fails?

You say that 1.5.1.1 crashes on start as well. Was that the case before 1.6 was released, or it ran okay back then?

If it used to be okay but is not now, this is clearly a local problem in Windows or this machine, not a bug in the game.

That is odd. In Task Manager - Performance do you see CPU, GPU or memory maxing out?

Please attach new copies of those text and log files, thanks.

We still get all those video and DirectX 11 errors, very odd.

Let's look at the CK2 logs:

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK2/settings.txt
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK2/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log , exceptions.log

I suspect that older thread was for a different edition of the game, MS/gamepass perhaps?

That's a different Windows error than we see in dxdiag. It does not look good I have to say!

If you revert to 1.5.1.1 in the Steam Betas tab for the game, does it start then?

And if you make a new Windows user and log into Windows as that, does 1.6.1.1. start then?

Has the game ever run on this machine? Or never?

But that Windows error c0000409 is a real worry. Crusader Kings 2 is free to play on Steam now, does it run okay?

Edit that pdx_settings.txt and find the renderer line. Change DX11 to OpenGL (EXACTLY like that). Does that make any difference?

What happens if you run ck3.exe directly from file explorer? Any error show up?

DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/pdx_settings.txt .

Right click on ck3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.

Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, refresh rate 60.

Is that any better?

Never seen this before! I don't know what nature of app or utility could cause this I'm afraid.

Are you aware of anything that could cause this?

Neither the game nor Steam deliberately delete save files.

Are you 100% sure it was a cloud save not local?

If you tick the "View Invalid Saves" button in the Load menu, does it show there?

Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-CK3
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK3 AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3 folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add CK3.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam CK3 or Documents CK3 locations, before installing again.

If those don't help:

From that error log the problem is in the video area, and you have a really old driver.

- uninstall the nVidia driver and all other nVidia software
- reboot
- install the latest https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/190349/en-us/
- reboot again

Is that any better?

Your game version should be 1.6.1.1 - do you see that in the launcher?

Have you started a new campaign since that patch, if so does it still get these issues?

Your log has a lot of errors I don't see in my game. If you delete it then start a new campaign, unmodded, do you still get those ?

Yes, as seen here:
forum.paradoxplaza.com

Mods enabled, yet not working after 1.6.0 update.

After I updated to the new 1.6.0 update, my mods stopped working for some reason. I tried disabling and re-enabling my mods, unsubbing and resubbing, uninstalling the game (once normally and once after deleting the CK3 file in Documents), and... forum.paradoxplaza.com... Read more

The game was updated to 1.6.1 a couple of days ago, then 1.6.1.1 last night. I would have thought saves from 1.6 or 1.6.0.1 would still work though, despite that warning.

Several problem mods in there, so let's try a clean reinstall and mod removal:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-CK3
- unsubscribe from ALL mods in the Steam Workshop for this game
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK3 AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3 folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add CK3.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam CK3 or Documents CK3 locations, before installing again.

Good luck!
