If you run ck3.exe directly from File Explorer, what happens? Any Windows error show up?

If you feel this is a bug, then the Bug Reports forum is the best place to report it.

Is this still happening since the 1.6 patch last night? You'd need to start a new campaign to check that.

If so, in the launcher Game Settings menu set display mode fullScreen, Vsync off, refreshRate 60. Is that any better?

Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-CK3
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK3 AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3 folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add CK3.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test with a new campaign, NOT with any existing one

In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam CK3 or Documents CK3 locations, before installing again.

Good luck!

Is this in a new campaign started since the 1. patch? Because campaigns from previous patches will not be playable under 1.6 I am sure, you'd need to revert to 1.5.1 to continue them.

And if there are any mods involved, they can't be used under 1.6 until their authors update them.

A major new patch came out last night, so if you haven't since then do one more clean reinstall please. AND make sure all mods are disabled.

If that still doesn't help, runck3.exe directly from File Explorer. What happens, do you see any Windows error then?

That is because 1.6 is not a beta version, it is the public release. Opt out of all betas and 1.6 will install.

Deleting the Documents folder is not a clean installation ;). Please do all of this and try again.

Important: Go to '..\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings III\save games\' and copy all the save games you want to keep outside the folder

  1. Move any valued save games elsewhere
  2. "Uninstall" in Steam
  3. Manually delete both the Steam\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Crusader Kings III AND Documents/Paradox/CK3 folders (think you may have missed the first part here)
  4. Re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
  5. Start the game with no mods active and test
In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam CK3 or Documents CK3 locations, before installing again.

I'm about out of ammo on this one. I cannot see what is wrong in Windows or your machine to cause this to you.

I suspect a clean wipe and reinstall of Windows would fix it, but that's a lot to contemplate to get a game going, I know!

When these freezes happen, is it just the game or the whole machine? Can you alt-tab out and do other stuff?

What if you make a new Windows user and log into Windows as that? Does the same problem happen then?

Really not sure what else to look into here. Has this problem always happened on this machine? Or it was okay up to some point?

A much better error.log but still no clues as to what is causing this to you.

Please report the temperatures of your CPU and video (GPU)
1/ before starting the game up and
2/ after say 10 minutes' play.
If your PC's vendor has given you no way of reading temperatures, install
SPEEDFAN http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php

That error log looks like before. Did you move the saved games out when you did your clean reinstall before?

If not let's try again:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-CK3
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK3 AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3 folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.

DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log

If the crash is repeatable form a save, best to post a new thread in Bug Reports and attach the save there for QA to look into.

Sorry for that problem!

Right click on ck3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.

Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, refresh rate 60.

Is that any better?
