Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-EU4
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/Europa Universalis IV AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/Europa Universalis IV folders - In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam EU4 or Documents EU4 locations, before installing again.
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add EU4.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.

THEN Right click on eu4.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.

Edit settings.txt to say:

refreshRate...

Your subscription is with Steam in your Steam Account. You go into the Subscription page there to see when its next renewal date is, and to cancel it from renewing.

Absolutely it could be, yes. Do you have access to another one you could swap in as a test?

Those temps are okay - neither of them ever get up near 80c? That surprises me as your symptoms do sound like overheating.

What fps do you see in the game now? It should not exceed 60

Note that this game is, strictly speaking, not supported on that hardware; only Intel-CPU Macs.

You'll need to contact Apple support for that question I think.

Meantime you will need to run in windowed mode.

You mean it was okay within a given campaign for 15 minutes then started happening while you were playing?

If so it is probably the GPU overheating. What fps do you see in the game now? It should not exceed 60

Please report the temperatures of your CPU and video (GPU)
1/ before starting the game up and
2/ after say 10 minutes' play.
If your PC's vendor has given you no way of reading temperatures, install

Right click on eu4.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.

Then go to your your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Europa Universalis IV/ folder and delete the /cache/ and /gfx/ folders.

Edit settings.txt to say:

vsync=no

Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode.

I'm afraid that is the case - the Steam store does not differentiate between DLCs you own or get from subscription.

You could get a trusted friend or relative to buy them for you as a gift in Steam, or buy from our store or an authorised reseller:

This is specifically in these two campaigns? A new test one you start is okay in this respect?

If so, it may be due to too much going on in the world at once. Probably best to attach the affected save files here for folks to look into, thanks.

The launcher is currently 2023.10.1 . But 2023.9 ought to work fine until this login issue gets sorted out - I'm seeing it right now even when on the latest launcher version, in fact.

You install it on your new machine exactly as you did on the old one.

A few mod problems in there! Please do all testing for this problem using campaigns that have never had any mods used in them, thanks.

Assuming you do have this issue in unmodded campaigns, try deleting the cache and gfx folders under Documents/Paradox Interactive/Europa Universalis IV , so the game recreates them.

If still no good, make a new Windows user on this machine and log into it with that. Any better then?

That save may be bugged or corrupted then. Did you have a game or computer crash while playing it perhaps?

You could attach it here, see if others get the same problem with it.

icarest said: When I started Paradox Launcher v2, it looked like a screenshot. There was no EU IV and Hoi IV.
That's because those two games were never ported to the standalone launcher platform. CK3 was (so it appears there) but is no longer supported there. The point was to see if the launcher itself would run at all.

Quite why it connects okay that way but not when run from Steam I'm not sure. If you have a VPN try connecting with that, then run these games from Steam - is that any better?

If you don't have a VPN< connect via a mob... Read more

Is this after starting these games from their respective Steam Play buttons? Or are you starting the Paradox Launcher in standalone mode, from a desktop shortcut or Paradox Plauncher.exe ?

Does this just affect that one campaign? Can you start and play a new one okay?

Any mods in use?

Sometimes GeForce Experience makes things worse. If you unload it before starting the game is it any better?

And, does this also affect CK2, CK3, HOI4 and Stellaris?

Does that help? If not, go into the nVidia control panel, Manage 3D settings. Force eu4.exe to run on the "integrated Intel" option, save and exit. Does that work better?

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Europa Universalis IV/settings.txt and pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Europa Universalis IV/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log .

Your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Europa Universalis IV/logs/system.log file will show which video system the game is using.
