Technically speaking the game is not supported on any integrated video system. But it will generally run anyway, if not fast. To help with that Please update that video driver

If that doesn't help, I'm not sure what is causing this to you - there's no crash in eu4.exe recorded in that dxdiag. That tends to point to something outside the game.

There's only what you see in that thread. At least two unrelated workarounds/fixes mentioned in it, and as you see we haven't had a continuous stream of such reports across all those games since then (some on particular games, of course). Most likely those reports were unrelated causes to each other.

I'll be here when you get back.

I think that reset, or the problem that caused it, is more likely to be a cause of this problem than your monitor. If you swap the old monitor in again does it come good for you?

Please let me know how the tests with other games pans out, thanks.

Right click on eu4.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.

Edit that settings.txt to say:

refreshRate=60
fullScreen=yes
borderless=no

vsync=no

Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode.

IF that doesn't help:
DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Europa Universalis IV/settings.txt and pdx_settings.txt .

That is normal, yes. So your problem is elsewhere.

You only mentioned CK2, EU4, and HOI4 above. Does this affect any non-PDS game such as PA, Surviving Mars, that i se you have?

Or newer PDs games like I:R and CK3?

It is hard to see how this has anything to do with your new monitor. But if you swap the old one in again does it come good for you?

You have 2 Windows updates stuck "In Progress" for over a month. If you run the Windows Update app manually does it find anything to do? If so apply that and reboot.

I see OneDrive is running. Your Windows user Documents folder is not on OneDrive, I hope - it's local?

This is using the EU4 - Vic2 converter, is that right?

If so you'll need to contact that mod's author or team, we can't help with modded games here I'm afraid.

Good luck!

It used to work well on another laptop I have, but ever since I change to this one, the game hasn't work even once.
And I tried all these, just don't work for me.
In future please make your own new thread, don't re-open old ones like this. The game has changed quite a bit since 2021.

If you have done everything in post #3 above, please provide the files I ask for there.

Then run eu4.exe directly from file explorer. Do you get a Windows error then, or what happens exactl... Read more

That error is almost always a missing or bad Microsoft DLLs. Odd thing to happen out of the blue if you've been playing on the same machine without significant change. When did it last work for you?

Is this the Steam edition, Epic, or something else?

Has it ever worked properly? If so, what change or update seemed to trigger the problem?

If you have Mouse Trails or any similar thing set up in Windows, disable that before starting the game.

Okay then, what if you make a new WIndows user on this one and log into it with that?

The game has not been updated recently, so this must be some external change. Not sure what though, we don't have other such reports - as yet anyway.

Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-EU4
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/Europa Universalis IV AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/Europa Universalis IV folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add EU4.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam EU4 or Documents EU4 locations, before installing again.

You may need help from User Mods in getting the manually installed ones going, I have no experience in them.

Hard to understand how subscribed ones that used to work, do not any longer. Can you test this on another machine to see if it is confined to this one?

I don't have that version to test I'm afraid.

Has this ever worked for you?

Does this happen with every single mod?

What game and launcher versions do you see?

No, the launcher only has those three .exe files. I don't know what else could be causing this to you.

Make a new Windows user on this machine and log into it with that. Do you get the same problem there?

If you can run the game but the launcher can't , that's usually a permissions issue.

dowser.exe from Steam\steamapps\common\Europa Universalis IV.
- C:/users//AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive\launcher-v2.2023.9/paradox launcher.exe
- C:/users//AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/bootstrapper-v2.exe

Please set all these files (but NOT eu4.exe) to run as the Windows Admin user. Any better?
