I heard back from the person in the community who was having the same problem and he said that it just started working for him randomly. Sorry that's not terribly helpful -.-

Hello Yellowfish!

Do you have an anti-virus installed?

After a quick search, here are a couple articles that could help:
https://appuals.com/fix-steam-content-file-locked/
https://recroom.happyfox.com/kb/article/10-steam-corrupt-content-files-issue/

There is one other person in our community who was running into this issue too, so I'm checking with him to see what he did to get around it.

I will reply again when he gets back to me.

Sorry for the inconvenience!

Brett

** MAGEQUIT NOW SUPPORTS KEYBOARD REBINDINGS **
You can now move with WASD instead of mouse if you want.
You can rebind spell hotkeys.
You can rebind curving hotkeys.
Aiming spells is still always done with the mouse.

Here is how the default control scheme works:

1. The mouse behaves like a joystick, much like many top-down shooters.
2. Your wizard will automatically walk in the direction you are aiming unless you hold spacebar.
3. QWERSDF are mapped to spells and will cast on-press in the direction you are pointing.
4. Holding left-click while casting will curve your spells left and holding right-click will curve them right.

At first glance, this might not seem ideal, but it actually works very well once you are used to it and it allows us to keep mouse&keyboard players in the same player base as controller players because neither scheme has a significant advantage.

In order to allow multiple people to play onlin... Read more

A follow-up on this -- my Steam Link arrived and I tried out using Direct Input as the primary input source instead of using XInput, and unfortunately the controllers don't work at all on the Steam Link when I do that. I'm going to reach out to the devs you mentioned and see if any of them can point me in the right direction. In the meantime, some of the forums I looked at talked about using VirtualHere as a workaround -- not sure if that's something you tried yet or not.

Of course! And thank you for providing me with some examples! I did some more digging myself and I may have a solution. We are using Rewired for our controller-handling library (it's amazing) and I just found this in their documentation:

"Windows requires that you enable XInput or use Direct Input as the primary input source in order to support the Steam Controller, Steam Streaming, and Steam Link. The recommended primary input source setting is Raw Input + Use XInput."

It appears Steam Controller and Steam Link could also work if I set Direct Input as the primary input source instead of using XInput. I have a hunch that this may allow for more than 4 players on the Steam Link. I ordered a Steam Link so I can test it myself before making the change officially. I'll follow up and let you know what I find!

I'm sorry, but I am also just as frustrated about it as you are. That is actually a limitation of the steam link itself. It requires xinput to be enabled and as far as I know also requires xinput-based controllers. 4 players is a limitation of xinput itself. I hate to tell you to hook your PC up to your TV to play more than 4 players but unfortunately that's the only way around it. Steam controllers also require xinput to work so you are locked into 4 of those max, steam link or not. However, you'd be able to use direct input controllers (e.g. PS4 controllers) in addition to the steam controllers if not on the steam link. Do you have any other games that support more than 4 players on the steam link? I'm willing to talk to the devs of those games if they know something I don't.

I have to point that for a game that puts a lot of focus on local multiplayer, it sure is disappointing that you can't more than 4 players local while using Steam Link (and/or Steam Controllers). Kills this as a possibility for a party game for me. Not sure if it's a limitation of Unity, but even if so, then apparently they chose the wrong engine to build this game on :(

Hahaha, yes KINGLER. Bots are the next big feature to implement :)
As you mentioned, it will be vital for both online and offline play!
I've already experimented with machine learning for the bots and had... mixed results.
https://twitter.com/brettpennings/status/1037219365505196032
So I'll be creating some sort of heuristic/learning hybrid and I just bought a pathfinding asset from the unity store to make this even more feasible.
Wish me luck!

Thank you for the logs!

Based on my research so far, there are 2 possible solutions:
1. I need to upgrade my version of Unity as this may be a bug fixed in Unity 2018. This is assuming you are using Windows 7, I think.
2. This may be an issue with Steam itself. Try following the instructions here: https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/864973032790233112/

If #2 doesn't help you...
it may be a while before I can upgrade Unity to the latest version. There are always a lot of things that break when I do that and I'll need to fix them all before uploading a new build. In the meantime, feel free to refund the game until there is a fix. I hate the idea of someone spending money on a game that doesn't work for them.

Hi! Sorry you are experiencing issues.

Can you give me some more specifics? Are you using a Dualshock 4 controller? Does it crash when you try to do something specific?

Thanks!

Hi haagen! That is correct. Once we have a larger community and anonymous matchmaking, I can reach back out to you and let you know! Sounds like it's too early in development for you to take the plunge just yet. Thanks for checking first!

Hi haagen :)

Yes, we have online multiplayer now. It's been in closed beta for a while and we just opened it up to the public yesterday! We are still growing the player base so you'll need to invite friends to play with you OR we have an active discord with more people in it that will be interested in playing with you as well. And yes, it works quite well. We played a bunch of games last night without issue.

Please let me know if you have any other questions!
