we have two experimental cards in the works. one is focused on some balance changes (some moira experiments we are unsure of and some minor toning down of genji). the other is a "failed" experiment that we figured might be fun for some to try.

we're not sure what order they will be going up just yet but we're hoping one goes live sometime next week. sometimes things come up and those dates change so please manage expectations accordingly.

Season 23 of Competitive Play is here, introducing Open Queue to the Competitive playlist.

Unlocked at level 25, Competitive Play is designed for those players who want to put their skills to the test, and offers a more serious experience than our Quick Play or Arcade Modes.

GETTING STARTED

Before you can kick off your competitive career, every player will be required to complete five placement matches in a selected role to obtain their seasonal skill rating for that role. Within the standard Role Queue competitive mode, players will earn separate skill ratings (SR) for each role in Competitive Play, for a total of three distinct SRs. This rating will be a number between 1 and 5000, with higher values indicating a greater skill level. Players will also be assigned a tier per role based on their rating—Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Master, or Grandmaster – and climbing into the next tier is possible as you improve. Open Queue will utilize the s...

With the launch of Season 23, Overwatch players will be able to enjoy a new option in Competitive mode with the addition of Open Queue, available starting today. Open Queue, which will live in the Competitive Play menu, will allow players to team up using different compositions from the 2 Tank/2 Damage/2 Support makeups in Role Queue. Furthermore, the Skill Rating (SR) earned in Open Queue will be separate from the SRs earned in Role Queue.

Michael Heiberg, principal game designer on Overwatch, says the decision to add Open Queue to Competitive Play came off the heels of its success in the Arcade, where players can face off in rotating non-standard game modes.

It all started with a simple experiment.

“We were looking at how popular Quick Play Classic has been,” says Heiberg, “and we wondered how successful an open queue alternative for Competitive would be.”

In keeping with some of the team’s main goals for Overwatch this year—fast balancing, lots o...

Hey folks, we investigated this issue and made some changes to try to alleviate the problem, and we expect to see some improvement over the next hour.

As some folks have mentioned in this thread, this issue is a result of internet throttling that is in place as a result of increased network demand during the pandemic. We appreciate your patience here, we’re committed to doing our best to avoid impact to you from these restrictions, sorry we didn’t get it 100% right this time.
