We’ve got some new Workshop features in the 1.48 PTR that we’re excited to share with you, including the ability to re-upload your Custom Game settings to one of your existing share codes, the ability to store strings into variables, new C-style syntax for summaries and copied text, and many others. For a full list, check out our patch notes.

For this PTR, we want to make sure that existing modes can be safely pasted from the old syntax, copied using the new syntax, and...

Hey everyone!

We just tried to push the experimental card to Retail servers, but saw that it caused some crashes. We’ve pulled it back temporarily until we can identify and fix the issue.

Thanks for your patience - we’ll update as soon as we have more information!

later this afternoon we will be deploying changes to the experimental card (hopefully)

i wanted to give a little insight to the changes that we are trying. the term “crowd control” or “cc” is used to refer to abilities that heroes can do to other heros that cause them to lose control of their character. examples include mei’s ability to freeze you, reinhardt knocking you down with earthshatter or getting stuck in junkrat’s trap.

in overwatch, we need to walk a fine line with crowd control abilities. on the one hand, we are a highly competitive first person shooter. on the other hand, one of the defining things about overwatch is the fact that our heroes have amazing abilities and mobility. we understand that crowd control abilities can cause a lot of frustration. any time, control is taken away from you it generally doesn’t feel good.

so these experiments are targetted at certain heroes, specifically at their crowd control abilities, with the intent being that t...

Hey there,

Thanks for reaching out about this! We are trying something new with Echo. Let me explain:

5.1 or 2.1 sound systems have a .1 channel that is known as the LFE (low frequency effect) channel. Sounds can specifically be sent to this channel to increase the bass for a given sound. We have been experimenting with adding LFE specific sounds to Echo so this is what you are hearing. The LFE sounds for Echo are mostly limited to when you are playing as her, except for her explosions. There is a bug here - your friendly Echo should not be making these sounds on her explosions. We will fix in the next patch.

It sounds like your subwoofer speaker volume just might be too loud. One clue is that you said having the bass management on causes the bass too be too loud. Bass Management is designed to take bass frequencies that your small speakers can’t reproduce and send it to the subwoofer, which is more capable of reproducing those frequencies.

I wou...

  • Once a month, more than once if possible.

  • Broadcast Semis and Finals for both NA *and EU. *

  • Scheduled around new balance changes, reworks, major gameplay changes or new hero releases wherever possible. +1 to Special rules.

  • Really disliked how the OWL twitter only tagged Danteh, Jake and Kariv when congratulating the team on their win. Why not Harb, Fran, Redshell, Cloneman (If y'all don't wanna Tag non-OWL people then don't tag anyone) as well.

  • Also, why not give a shoutout to the runner ups. They were mostly unknowns so they sure could have used the plugs to their Twitter and Twitch links.

Thanks for these :) I'm putting together a big list of feedback for the team to review so we can improve for next time. This helps! (Also, I definitely agree on increased visibility for the EU matches as well)

Hey Molly, if you’re reading this then just wanted to let you know the tournament was awesome, incredibly fun and the only gripe I had was that I couldn’t see everyone I wanted to because everyone played at the same time (and of course, that’s not a real gripe).

Please more events like this, maybe once a month based around something that’s happening with the in game events. Would love to see special rules like the teams have to have an echo rule. I thought the max two player active OWL cap was great.

Also letting streamers stream the game alongside a main broadcast so we could hear comms and see different POV was fantastic.

10/10 tournament would watch again

I'm reading this! Thanks for all the great feedback! I'm putting together a list of things we can do better for future events... and yes, we're super interested in doing more of these!

I love the idea of making the matches more viewable, maybe partnering with some of the community broadcast teams to make it happen.. those were some of my favorite streams to watch this weekend!

when we moved to a combined hero pool system, we did so based on feedback from owl players and coaches. in our monthly discord chat, they vocalized that the number one issue they were facing was the inability to effectively practice in competitive play because the pools differed. on the development team, we also wanted to move away from human-curated pools to something that was driven by statistics. we felt like this would provide more transparency into why the picks were made each week and frankly, remove some of the negative emotion we saw when the picks would be announced. we evaluated using owl stats to determine the pools but there were some issues that put us in the direction we ultimately went. because of logistics with how the owl broadcast works, the owl schedule itself, the desire to have the picks read after the final game of the weekend and the amount of time between when the final match of the weekend happens and when the teams have requested to be able to start practi...
