But... Just as an innocuous, open question.

  • Would it be possible to include some metrics like, total number of deaths, boss kills (including most killed boss), and perhaps even total amount of GP Spent in Trades?

I'd be interested in knowing if there's ways to track that kind of information, because, in case it's possible, I'd love to make a suggestion for an NPC at Death's Office that tells you some of that data; like the Mirror/Lake thing in Cuphead games that tells you how many times you've died in the game.

Could be a cool addition for us to explore in future! I reckon a spectral entity from the City of Um who has seen your battles through time could be a good Game Jam project maybe...

Mod Jack's still very much active within the Discord when he can be, but he's still working hard on his responsibilities. It's worth noting that as Lead Designer, he's responsible for overseeing and supporting a lot of the really cool stuff that's going to be getting into players' hands in the future, but he's not solely responsible for the direction of RuneScape. It's a collective effort from the Leadership Team who each manage separate aspects of the project, including Mod Keeper and Mod Bam.

Mod Jack, however, goes above and beyond his role's requirements (often I catch him burning the midnight oil chatting in the Official Discord's lore section far outside of work hours!) to engage with the community because of a deep-rooted, genuine care for player voice which is at the heart of what we do here.

It's, unfortunately, a double-edged sword - on the one hand, Mod Jack gets to engage with players, get feedback, argue about Star Wars, or whatever may come up in con...

We're JMods, yes, but we're human beings too! We have families, hobbies and personal lives. Some days are tough and you just want to unwind on the sofa with a good cuppa tea, a cat and a 2 hour long youtube documentary about speedrunning.

This might be the case, but communication with the community is a total dumpster fire. Reddit, Discord, Twitter etc.

Pick a location a make it the primary point of contact. It grinds my gears that the expectation of Jagex seems to be that everyone has to be on every social media platform and in every chat to catch something someone might say. Fixing this scattershot approach might help with the perception of the poor state of communication. You never know.

I wonder if that is contributing to the community’s feelings of a lack of direction.

The major contributing factor to the above is the lack of direction. Closely followed by the exodus of JMods from RS3 to OSRS. Now the lack of forward projections for content is likely to translate into an actual total lack of content in the coming months.

communication with the community is a total dumpster fire

It'd be easier if everyone congregated in one space, but there's no accounting for taste these days so we just have to be everywhere! I make a concerted effort to include Reddit, Discord and Twitter in any communication we plan to do with players as that's where the majority of our players congregate and I'd rather hit all three than, say, stick to Twitter and force everyone to make an account over there to participate.

As for other Jmods (namely ones whose jobs don't ask them to be actively communicating with the community, but rather do so of their own volition and because they want to hear from players and get opinions, feedback and have constructive conversations) - they stick to platforms they feel particularly comfortable with.

That's entirely their own choice, and I'm always happy to support members of the team looking to jump onto new plat...

They've not gone missing - the Mod who took this on as a project has been running into some obstacles with the volume and level of data we're pulling in but is still powering through it!

I wish I could tell you more beyond that or give you a date, but I've offered my help to try and get the ball rolling because I wanna know what I got up to this year, too!

What a haul! I had a blast trying this out myself recently, it's super fun and I hope you enjoy your first session next week!

Hey all. We've been wanting to provide some reassurance on this quote and have been discussing across both teams this morning.

Ayiza just responded with an answer that's totally reflective of our perspective on the RuneScape side too, so I wanted to copy it to this thread on our subreddit.

"We know bots exist, just as much as you do when you see them in-game, but it’s important to highlight that the article does not accurately reflect our strategy. Our priority is to always ensure every player has a good experience when playing both RuneScape and Old School RuneScape.

Since the news of the acquisition came about, many of you have been saying we’re not banning bots on purpose, mostly pointing to how we’re padding out player numbers. That just isn’t true and would not be good for the game. We are banning bots, more than we ever have before. But the reality is, and this is something we’ve said time and time again, it’s an arms race. As fast as we ban them, new ...

That did feel like one of the more arbitrary quest requirements in the game. Since it's not specifically mentioned though, is this line conditional now? That one awkward line seemed to be the only reason the tasks were ever required.

Thanks! Have requested a bug report for this to make that line conditional.

The lovely Mod Spyro did some hunting this morning and several front facing shots have been added to the blog. Unfortunately when it was being written up the plan was I would grab some on Friday but other tasks sapped away the time so we went with what was available.
