Yeah, there is a longer term solution possible, but I can't guarantee when that would be as it requires engine work.

Hey, so just took a look at this and with current options available I'm unable to remove the op without causing other issues with BGH. However, I can make it so if you accidentally click the ring it just won't use the ability instead.

How does that feel as a solution for now?

Edit: This will be a temporary solution; I have another longer-term solution planned. However it requires some engine work first. Once done, I can remove this temporary fix and replace with the full version.

Hi stu, sorry for the off-topic reply but I haven't been happy scaping for the past year. I've been trying to get my account "KravenMorhed" returned to me I was falsely issued a macro major ban on my 7 year old acc. It's barely even above 2k total. My post history on reddit logs my attempts at reaching out to jmods consistently for almost a year. I've dm people too but I can't get any help or a reply.

I played runescape as a kid but now I'm a dad and a husband I don't have the same time I used to have there's no way I could re get to where I once was, ironically if I did cheat however I could get back there or further if one were to believe all the bot screenshots on this subreddit. I tried to make an alt during leagues and it's cringe to say but I would feel my heart skip a beat when it took longer than usual to sign in or I typo my password lol. I'm worried it'll happen again and so I haven't played aside from leagues. I love the game, but I can't go again on a new acco...

As you've contacted many JMods in the past year, this probably isn't news to you, but content developers are not allowed and do not have access to the tools to deal with account issues or bans, which are handled by the player support team. I have no experience, authority or qualifications in the area of banned accounts.

I can only point you towards the player support page for assistance, which includes an area to appeal your ban. https://support.runescape.com/hc/en-gb/articles/115002238729-Appeal-an-offence

Hey Folks, I believe there is a restriction around Ironman accounts and this offer (as it includes the DXP aspect) need to double check on Monday but I believe that is likely to be the issue in this instance.

Stu stu stu, do you know if movement not being affected by surge/escape/dive is on that list? It was a gamejam shown off last year you could click a spot, start moving, surge, and at the end of the surge the character continued to move towards their destination rather than having to re-click it.

That sounds like something Mod Giragast (engine developer) started in a 2023 gamejam and was working on further during the Q4 community hitlists.

Looks like his engine work that it was dependent on has released but the content side of it is unstarted. Everyone who was assigned to work on community hitlists throughout Q4, including me, were assigned back to developing Q1/Q2 episodic projects at the start of 2024.

That specific issue (a task he created named "add variant of Surge that doesn't break pathing" looks to be what you're describing) seems to have been reassigned to the combat modernisation team in late January, so perhaps that's something they might explore after the release of the combat beta frees up Ryan and Sponge to work on other things.

(I can't confirm whether or not that's an imminent priority - that's just going off what I can see in our ticketing system, that the task is now listed under the combat modernisation team's backlog.)

Thank you for the response, I'm very much looking forward to Monday's update, and hopefully we'll get to see the fruit of several game jam projects in May :-)

I'm looking forward to both too! :) Happy 'Scaping.

Returning the old jingles on Monday's update would signify that that the old combat skills have been improved and modernized.

Hope you read this u/Jagex_Stu

Good idea, but not going to happen. When and if gamejam projects are released is outside my control.

Happily we did recently get confirmation that several of the smaller updates developed and completed in prior gamejams are currently scheduled to release in a ninja strike in May, and that currently includes combat skill levelup jingles. Plans change, so no guarantee, but that's the current ETA.

I can understand wariness to include additional projects in Monday's release, as the combat beta was a massive amount to get through release candidate testing in one week. I've got a few fixes from the quest requirement cleanup developed during Feb gamejam week that are waiting in the release queue but couldn't be accepted this week as they're relatively minor. All in good time, and we have to be patient.

Images get broken cause some of the CSS wasn't loading right, implemented a work around it there.

The section is repeated as I wanted to include it in the patch notes as naturally its where it should go but we wanted to highlight those changes in its own section.

In the picture above the white squares are safespots (tiles that give you the 2-tile range advantage), red circles are tiles that will drag you next to the enemy and green circles are tiles that will take you to a safespot. This is makes safespotting enemies incredibly annoying, really hindering the only safespot tool melee has.

Now, I knew this bug was very old but I asked myself just how old? So I went into Oldschool, did a few tests and the same thing seems to be happening, suggesting this bug has been in the game since release!

If you walk instead of run it will never happen :)

Gigabrained, I had no idea that was how that worked - you can tell I've not got any boss pets yet...

Interesting! Out of curiosity, was there a reason you were keeping the collar without claiming it?

In general I agree, I think most people complaining about the new player UI is overdramatic and geared more toward those who are returning rather than new, and are looking for some kind of quick UI setup for getting into bosses, where you'd need to set up a bunch of action bars to be visible and a bunch of visible hud windows that a a real new player doesn't need. That said though:

I'd also love to explore simplifying things like the ribbon

The ribbon I think is the worst part of the default UI. The rest is decent enough, especially now that stuff like a second action bar and action bar binding is set up automatically on new accounts so it swaps bar for each style. However, the ribbon by default is a mix of "management window" buttons (clicking them opens the large center windows with tabs) and "action window" buttons (clicking them directly opens a hud window).

Personally, I think it'd make more sense to just put all the ...

More advanced presets is something I've been thinking about quite a bit. For combat, I think there's space for at least 2: a simple and advanced combat preset. The first would be aimed more around Slayer and early bosses; while the latter would be designed for those taking on advanced bosses and built around having more action bars visible at once.

I find this an absolutely fascinating topic and could talk for hours on it. A few years ago when working on Davendale, we were able to do a load of playtesting where we watched various people play RuneScape for the first time and honestly it's mind-blowing the tiny details that new players stumble over.

I'm not going to lie and say the UI is perfect, but last year we created a new New Player default UI and saw an improvement - players were playing longer with it than the previous version. Check it out, very simple changes but as a summary we group similar interfaces together and make core gameplay like chat and the combat action bars front and centre.

However, I think for your average player to reach the point where the UI is problematic is way further down the line than people expect. Here's some examples of things I saw that were bigger tripping points early on:

  • Unable to progress chat because they kept clicking outside the box
  • Putt...
