I haven't seen other such reports, yet anyway.

DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/settings.txt and pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log .

THEN can you test this on any other computer you might have access to?

RedAntares said: As for your request, I just started a new game, apparently on 3.8.2 but the opening page says 3.6.1 (a6c5)
That makes no sense. Are you now opted into 3.6.x , 3.7.x or no beta at all?

And, can I ask why you went to 3.6 when your previous save was presumably 3.7?

amyjayne said: Same here. I managed to play for 5 minutes earlier before the game started lagging horrendously then crashed and I couldn't get past the initializing screen after that.

The clean install worked to get me past the initializing load screen without crashing, but only played for another 15 minutes or so before the game started lagging again. I managed to save and exit the game before it crashed this time but the lag and crashing has continued every time I've booted up the game again.
And yours seems to be different again - the others here have n... Read more

You say 'the same issue' but I think you are saying its the launcher crashing, not the game? Is that right? Where is the game installed, can you run ck3.exe directly?

That's normal for this game, I get about the same.

That's pretty clearly a Steam or Windows problem, as mentioned above. Does a simple reboot get past it?

Thanks, I'll pass that back to Paradox next week.

steamnista said: I'm in a similar situation using the Gamepass version of the game on PC. I did reinstall the game a few weeks ago, and I can launch the game via CK3.exe, but yeah, the launcher crashes without an error when at the launching game portion.
So the same as the OP's issue, but not the same as mdougla2's issue, it seems.

Your installation is in one of the accessible locations I mentioned above, is that right?

Yes, I suggest you uninstall and then install in one of those accessible locations, as I described. Then at least you can run ck3.exe if there is still a problem.

Has this game ever worked properly on this machine? Or never yet?

You added ck3.exe to the Apps Allowed Through list in Ransomware, is that right?

And, does this happen with both local and cloud saves?

If you've had the game installed for a while, it's probably in an almost unreachable spot deep in C: that MS used to use.

Recently they've changed their mind on that and they are typically installed under C:\Xbox Games\ or D:\Xbox Apps\ . Right click on the game in your Xbox App Library and choose Manage, Files. Does it show a location there?

If not it's probably the first option above. Best to uninstall, then install again in one of those accessible locations.

Ah, so you don't in fact see our launcher.

What if you go directly to where CK3 is installed in File Explorer and double click on ck3.exe there?

Make sure the new ck3.exe is in the exceptions lists of your antivirus app.

Right click on ck3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.

Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, cap refresh rate at 60.

Any better?

Just to be clear - you all see the launcher itself okay, it is only when you hit PLAY in it this happens?

And you are all on the Xbox/Gamepass edition?

Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-CK3
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK3 AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3 folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add CK3.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test with a new campaign

In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam CK3 or Documents CK3 locations, before installing again.

Yes, PLEASE test with a new campaign with ALL mods disabled, let us know what happens. Thanks.

My guess is the new patch has a problem with that old MacOS version, which was the minimum requirement back at game launch time 3 years ago; maybe QA simply don't have the bandwidth to test on every outdated OS version for every platform!

Would you consider updating to a later MacOS version?

Is this in a campaign started after the new 1.9.x patch? Or carried over from previous patches? Or both?

What antivirus app do you use? Make sure ck3.exe is allowed through all its exceptions list - you may need to re-do this everything a new ck3.exe comes out!

The Xbox app, not the launcher or game?

If so please try this Windows repair tool

Use the System File Checker ...
